Not saying you have to watch another useless SRF programme – but if after x years in this country you’ve never even heard of a weekday “in dept news programme” catering to a large area of Switzerland, guess I rest my case. Or we could accuse the TSR or TSI (which you ignore as well) of not promoting the Swiss German broadcasts enough….
Completely separate to whether people watch the Swiss German, French, or Italian channels is the fact that many people watch either no television at all, or only selected programmes. Not everyone will just scan the channels looking to see what's on.

People still watch TV? I think the last time I had the TV TV on was during the World Cup. Otherwise it's only Netflix, Amazon Prime, Sky etc.

I prefer to read my news ...

Re: You know you've been in Switzerland for too long when...

I've never owned a TV in my life. We have a screen for movies and Netflix but it's only connected to the internet and that was pretty recent.

I'm pretty sure I'm current and up-to-date on local and world news and current affairs through online newspapers and radio over internet.

Live streaming scheduled TV is (or should be) pretty much obsolete nowadays and even if I could watch it, I wouldn't out of choice, in the same way as I wouldn't walk down to the village square on a Sunday morning to hear the town crier give the news nor go to the church for instruction on how I should live my life.

it's still relevant for live events, like sports. Apart from that, we also don't watch TV. I stopped my cable TV subscription more than 5 years ago.

There are still lots of older people who watch it for various reasons although I’m sure the numbers are declining. I see it lasting for a good few years yet.

I have heard of it, I just don't watch left wing fake news.

Good point about sports. Other live-streaming events like historic space rocket launches are now streamed over Youtube.

I commented recently on someones thread here that was such a mix of german and english that non-german speakers had no idea what it was about.

Funny you never see such a mixture with French, or Italian, or Romansch.

Romansch is not an official language.

But it IS a national language, and is printed on the money!

I watch Rumantsch programming more than I watch German!

Yes, yes we do!

Haven't done the sums here in Switzerland, but TV is WAY cheaper in the UK than subscriptions to all those other services. £159 per year for the TV licence - our Sky subscription nearly £60 a month. No idea what all the other ones could cost you.

Here we pay just under CHF110 a month for TV, broadband and internet security and then there's SERAFE on top of that at 335.

That said I can't say I watch much TV these days; simply not interested in most of the stuff being produced.

Unless you need spectacularly fast internet, you're being ripped off. I would shop around.

Was on of those supposed to be £ ?

Not sure what it is today, but on 25th December £ = 1.03!!!

I try not to look at the rate too often- just too stressful and terrifying, and as there is nought I can do about it!

Last 3 months of UK pension was paid at 1.09! B*gg*r!
My UK pensions measured in Swiss francs have been pretty much the same for some eight years.

The annual UK inflation based pension increases seem to balance the exchange rate falls.
The UK State pension is inflation protected for everyone, maybe you have another UK pension that is not so protected?

The Swiss State pension is also partly inflation protected - fully protected after this year, my Swiss company pension not so protected.

I read a study once that claimed most Italians learned Italian from TV after it became widespread, before that they mostly spoke only local dialects.
