I had a thought I was going to post in the famous TIS - This Is Switzerland thread, but then realized we might need a different category of "You know you've been in Switzerland for too long when..."

I'll start it off... I realized I've been here for too long because I have a list of language fluency in descending order...

English>French>German>Italian>Spanish.

My monolingual family members back home would not be able to understand the concept that I need to use multiple languages on a daily basis...

You know you've been in Switzerland for too long when you cringe as your parents come to visit and don't realise how much noise they make after 10pm.

You know you have been in Switzerland too long when you have a vacuum cleaner for cleaning the patio.

Tut and massive eye roll at people standing on the left of the escalator.

Recognise more and more names in the local paper's news and death notices.

You put Aromat on everything

When you are annoyed that the train is a few minutes late…..

When you go back to visit your home country and accidentally say "Gruezi" to a cashier or "Entschuldigung" to someone in the store, and they look at you like you're mentally ill.

When you find your self thinking “Ja, Selber Schuld” about yourself or others on an extremely regular basis

When you respond willingly and with gusto to threads like this

And then some pedant comes along and corrects your grammar or spelilng.

When anytime you go home to the US, you open the windows of your guest or hotel room for "luft".

(Most of the places in the US have central air and people don't really open their windows.)

When you visit a country in which you used to live, and catch yourself get annoyed when an appointment doesn't start on the dot punctually.

I waited 50 minutes past my appointment time to see my Dr in Switzerland the other day

And boy were you annoyed!

You feel like leaving a passive aggressive note in the laundry room.

You feel dumb for not speaking 3 languages

You pay 20 chf for a burger and you think "what a steal!"

You get annoyed when someone is speaking too loudly on the tram.
