Re: What do you really miss the most?

yes, london store in Zug for walker's crisps. But no tesco finest crisps?

My list:
A Scottish chippy.

A proper (british) indian restaurant (although, Kings Kurry is decent) :-)

Marks and Spencers food. All of it, seeing as I'm here and not there.

And a decent buttie/sandwich with no gherkin and a choice other than schinken, salami or käse.

Cheers

Re: What do you really miss the most?

My girlfriend found it really weird that we put chips in a bun to make a butty. I love them though.

I had lots of Sage & Onion stuffing sent out to me so have packets of them in my cupboard now. I also miss going to the chippy and having my food wrapped in newspaper with salt & vinegar smelling. mmmmmm

Gav - you sad ba...... You should just learn to love Rivella, after all it is one of the *five* or so choices you get to drink at most shops. Integrate damn you....lol

Mark

p.s. I apologise - Rivella does come in 3 exciting different varieties...

I'm always making fun of Rivella... although my daughter loves it.

I always tell her... the reason Swiss milk tastes so good is, they take that stuff out of it!

I'm definatley with you on those ones. A fish supper with lashings of chippie sauce; cue Homer drool!!!!

I also love M&S food, not that I ate it that much in Scotland due to the price. The convienience & quality of it is just superb.

I recently had a big craving for Prawn Cocktail crisps, I was so glad to find them in the London store. Paprika just doesn't cut it for me.

As for Rivella, we had a poll at lunch time in our work kitchen a couple of weeks ago. All the Swiss loved it everyone else hated it. I guess it's like Marmite, you have to be brought up on it to appreciate it

What I miss most about home though is the Sea, the North Sea or Atlantic may not be exotic but you can't beat a walk along a quiet beach with the salt air in your hair.

I miss getting up with a monsterous hangover on Sunday mornings and myopically chasing a ball around a field in the freezing cold.

Hang on.......

HAHA
I'm not surprised my very first post is about how much I long for Clamato.
I miss that the most. Caesers on a hungover sunday morning ;(

I have mastered making a very good Bloody Mary, although I miss the horseradish in the Caesar.

Hi Everyone.

Re: What do you really miss the most?

i miss the ocean.

i do miss some english foods but i go back enough to sample them, and bring a few choice items back, when i dont forget them in the refrigerator like i did this monday. though when im here, although i work in zug, i never go to the english store. im happy with what i and my partner cook here.

overall my standard of living is better in zurich in my opinion.

Re: What do you really miss the most?

My football team wins on the Saturday and then:

A decent pint of real ale (more than one of course - Pedigree, Taylor's Landlord or Jennings preferred but anything except nondescript lager) in a spit and sawdust pub out in the countryside somewhere, with family or friends who truly understand the English sense of humour. If there's some fine grub to go along with it, wonderful, but a few packs of Walkers' crisps will do the belly-fill job. If all this is after a hike in the Lake District, Peak District or North York Moors (or along a sea-cliff edge), I'm in heaven.

Can't find that combination here, or anywhere else come to think of it.

Just to let you know, I read yesterday that there is a M & S opening in Geneva within the next month, food section is yet to be confirmed.

When I lived in Frankfurt years ago an M&S opened there. The brits were really excited because it meant that they wouldn't have to drive to Cologne on the weekends to stock up on their "essential" items (where the nearest M&S was located). Anyway to cut a long story short it got plenty of traffic from the expats (presumably British) living there, but not enough. I don't know if it was mismanagement or not, but in the end it closed. Let's hope the same story doesn't happen again...

Re: What do you really miss the most?

Same thing happened when I was in Strasbourg, however the decision to shut down then was due to M & S going through a bad patch, they decided to close down all stores abroad and concentrate on the UK, recently a Greek company has bought the European franchise and have opened in Greece, Cyprus and soon Geneva. As long as we dont see British favorites replaced by Mousaka, and ready to go Meze it bodes well for the future.

Re: What do you really miss the most?

I miss chicken and mushroom pies (my husband didn't know what a pie was - i had to draw a picture!)and Freshpak rooibos tea...not the flavoured stuff you get here...And ice-cold drinks in summer AND winter...and FREE ketchup...and custard...real custard...not vanilla creme...And as a Capetonian it's too painful to talk about fish...or Woolies' smoked chicken breasts...or Durban curry spices...I shouldn't have started...And I long for the days when pork was a luxury...

Yeah, what's with Europe thinking Rooibos needs vanilla, or lime, or cinnamon... or it's a health product that can only be bought for 10 francs a tea bag...

By custard, do you mean the ultramel or birdseye variant? (SA had one with a monk on it, Friars I think)

I get my sister to send me peppermint crisps and rooibos tea, starbars from the UK as they disappeared from SA when I was a child.
