Could be Swisstree!!! I'll keep an eye on him.

How about just doing what they do in Texas. Putting a sign up that all trespassers will be shot. Can you do that here??

All we know is that it was owned by a family originally and then a little old lady for many decades. Her husband fell down the stairs and died in our house (hence the creepy noises in the middle of the night) and then a young couple owned it for a few years before we bought it from them.

I don't think there was anything too exciting that we missed.

Perhaps it had a reputation of its own and people don't realize it is under new ownership.

I'm not sure Phos. During the summer we were building, adding a garage and a pool and people seemed really interested in that so I think they just came in to see how the works are coming along.

But what happened today was rather odd.

Those were real people It's the others who walk in that you need to worry about. I hear some Roman prisoners got brutally killed on that piece of land. Next time look at their feet. If the feet are wrong way around then they are my buddies

Have we got a ghost thread on this forum? Maybe now is the time to create one. I swear I won't take **** and will play along nicely. I like a good ghost story even though I don't believe all that

Re: Trespassing on private property

As someone mentioned, it could well be that they think it is a park. There are quite a few parks like that in Zürich e.g. Private but still open to public. Be ware of dog doesn't necessarily mean "keep out" in the eyes of a Swiss. On the contrary, it could actually indicate that passing is allowed but you need to be carful about the dog. I would set up a simple sign of "Privat" or "Durchgang Verboten" instead.

Tilia, it really just looks like a private house. Our garden is not very big and we are among other houses. People are just curious and snooping for some strange reason.

Then they get really offended when we tell them to leave. Last summer, I slammed the gate after I told an older couple to get off my property (I know, I wasn't being a very nice host!) and they started cursing at me.

As it is well argumented in your other thread concerning the ghost stories... have you considered that your house is infested and these silhouettes who speak Italian are poltergeists?

Re: Trespassing on private property

The fact that people get upset when they get caught is a typical Swiss defense behavior and doesn't say anything really.

I was just trying to give you some ideas on why people may be walking in there and how to get them to stay out of there in the first place. The "beware of the dog" sign obviously isn't working, is it? :-)

No, you're right. It's not. We really have to start locking the gate during the day.

People do not normally walk onto private property here. What you are experiencing is very odd. Get a big sign for the gate with the words "privat" on it. As for the dog, it's your property, and if it is fenced, why not keep the dog outside? Our property is completely fenced, excluding the front path and driveway. The dogs love to sit at the front which is more interesting than the back garden as there are school children, horses and lots of people walking by. Last week some kindergarten children decided to feed the dogs (looked like rice crackers from what I could tell from the crumbs) and of course the kids ran off as soon as they saw me. I told them it was dangerous for their tiny fingers to be passing food through the fence. The children told me all the dogs do is lick their fingers.

I put some signs on the fence to warn people passing by that there are dogs but it really is a bit funny as all people see when they walk by are wagging tails. Our dogs are really friendly and if the gate weren't locked, and someone took it upon themselves to enter, that would be considered trespassing as far as I am concerned.
