Re: Post Your Photos From Switzerland!

Silly shot but I like the colors. I have more but they are slightly NSFW so I'll leave them on my flickr.

Found some more pictures, this time winter images.

View from Saas Fee towards the mountains on a very sunny winter day

Still Saas Fee but this time on the slopes and once again sunny

It's no silly shot in my opinion, the colors are beautiful. I really like drops of water hanging on the sunflower. Nice shot!

I just flicked thru your flickr.

Dang. There is some nice cat-ography on there.

2-legged, 4-legged, and (my favorite) fuel-to-noise converting.

Got any more shots of my favorite kitty?

Re: Post Your Photos From Switzerland!

Last Wednesday I had planned to hike the Schilthorn from Mürren. The only good thing about that hike (or at least 80% of it) is the views; the footway is a steep, wide, rocky track. The views, on a day with good weather, are excellent almost all the way.

The forecast had been good, and early in the morning there were only a few clouds. By the time I had started hiking everything was socked in. I trudged up to a bit above the Schilhorn Hut (I wanted some exercise, and I am stubborn) before deciding to call it a day and end this miserable trip.

On the way down I noticed that, while there was no promise of clearing, individual peaks often peaked (atrocious pun intended) through the clouds. So I sat down, took out my camera, and shot a ton of photos. Most were deleted, a few got posted here and one, of the Jungfrau finally showing herself after having teased me for 20 minutes, is here:

Some people would pay a lot to be teased by a young maiden for 20 minutes, especially if there is a positive result at the end of it!

The clouds really add to the dramatic look of the mountains. It is that little glimpse with the promise of more to come to those who wait.

Glad you are enjoying your trip.

Though I vociferously claim total ignorance of German I do know what "Jungfrau" means so my choice of words was not totally accidental

[Added]Glad I was able to edit before the edit window slammed shut!

This thread is about photography, not word play, but the Jungfrau, Monch and Eiger really invite it.

I obviously thought of the Jungfrau disrobing as I was watching her emerge from, then retreat into, the clouds. The following two comments just came to my mind after posting the original response.

I saw a lot more of the Monch than of any other peak: he seemed keen to expose himself.

I just got one fleeting view of the Eiger: he is clearly such a sourpuss that he almost failed to show up.

In Saas Fee I have a tiny cell, but can see the Lagginhorn (4,010 meters) and the Fletschhorn (3,993 meters) from my window. Hoping to get some good end of day photos as the setting sun hits them.[/Added]

Re: Post Your Photos From Switzerland!

As I mentioned in a posting a few weeks ago, Mr RetiredInNH traveled from boston to Zurich on the same flight as my wife and myself. It was quite a coincidence, which I figured out just in time to have a brief chat with him in the departure lounge. He turns out to be a well-known hike leader with the Appalachian Mountain Club here in New England (we're members too, though we haven't met on the trail). He's still in Switzerland; we left a week ago.

So, we went to the Jungfrau area too, and we also were cursed with clouds. We inquired at the tourist office in Grindelwald and the response was "Cloudy at the top", and given the price of a ticket to Jungfraujoch, it was one trip we elected not to make.

But from our time in Grindelwald, here's a picture on the path from First to the Bachalpsee, sadly not the view all the postcards show:

Re: Post Your Photos From Switzerland!

I have literally thousands of photos from Solothurn and its Kanton, so where to begin. About a year ago the new Rötibruck was finished - not very often that a completely new bridge is built over the River Aar. It was combined with a foot bridge and road along the top.

I'm trying to post my first picture here but the upload keeps failing. probably it has to do with the size 2.2MB. Any suggestions how I can decrease the size or how can I post it here in another way?

Try this programme that was recommended on EF a few days ago

Re: Post Your Photos From Switzerland!

I have all my photos on Flickr, but a small word of warning. At the present time they have developed a new system and putting a photo up on its own is no longer so easy. As I have done web sites I have no problem with Html and could adapt the link myself, but I would avoid flickr at the moment, although they said they are searching for a solution to the problem.

I have all my photos on Picassa Web, which seems to have fewer problems than many other sites, and which, of course, integrates well with Picassa on my computer.
