Something for the Brits: M&S in CH

From Swissinfo:

Quote:
Marks & Spencer, the doyen of British clothing retailers, is to open its first store in Switzerland at the end of this month.
Loved by Brits for its lingerie, the 122-year-old chain's arrival in Geneva comes as both the company and its clothing lines are recovering some of their former lustre.

Well when they hopefully finally get around to having the nice M&S food on the shelves there will no longer be any good reasons to go back to the UK...

Can't say I've ever tried the lingerie (not saying I haven't - just can't talk about it) but the Hot Chicken Curry in a tin is fantastic.

Geneva though? Bit far to go for not just food, but Marks and Spencers Food?

Hi Swissbob,

Did you click the link? You'll see the in the article that they aren't going to sell food from that store anyway - they couldn't find enough space..

Let's hope they find some space when M&S gets to Zurich. I read a little 20min article in the business section last week that they're expecting to come to Zurich 6 months after Geneva.

They can rip out the lingerie section for all I care - just so long they replace them with pies, pies and more pies. Hopefully next year, we'll get some hot cross buns!!

(Though I must admit I was quite surprised to find they have them all year round in the UK - even with the cross!) ~N

Thought you might like to know that M&S Geneva opened today and yup I was there having a snoop around...frankly a bit disappointed because NO FOOD HALL!!!!!! aaaaahh..I'll have to wait for those cumberland sausages...however, one whole floor dedicated to lingerie for us gals, another floor for ladieswear and another for menswear...they were doing a 10% discount today together with a free gift (i.e. scented silk hangers)....I'm still happy they opened up shop here though even without cumberland sausages..

Prices are quite cheap for Switzerland...they've basically converted the pound sterling into Swiss francs...I reckon that might change though...they'll soon realise that they can make more money in the Swiss market...

It's a bit small though....but they've promised to expand ) besides they're planning on opening up franchise stores in Zurich, Bern, Basel and Lausanne yipppeeee!

Re: Something for the Brits: M&S in CH

I have been in touch with the franchise holder for M&S in Europe and they have confirmed that they will be opening a Marks & Spencer in Zurich in 2007. The new store will be bigger than the one in Geneva, but alas the fools have no plans to sell anything other than clothes.

I don't think they realise just how much I would pay for a regular supply of sausages, bacon, pasties and pies.....
