Swisspost - paying for returned package

Hello,

I have a quick question regarding packages that have been sent to the wrong address.

If i send a package, and it is returned due to non-collection, do I have to pay any penalty fees?

The reason I ask, is I bought something off ricardo and accidentally sent my old address. The seller is asking my for double the postage because she claims to have been charged postage 2x for the wrong address.

Does this sound correct? It seems odd to me.

Thanks all,
Dave

Re: Swisspost - paying for returned package

I feel sure the penalty in the UK is twice the normal postage, so it sounds likely.

Re: Swisspost - paying for returned package

It's very likely. The Swiss post only describes the rules for international sendings and domestic letters in detail. The former cost the full price, the latter the additional reduced fee for mass mailings of the same priority category.

Re: Swisspost - paying for returned package

Yes, the sender has to pay the return postage.

It has happened to us as well, when the buyer didn't pick up his/her parcel. Then it comes back to me and I have to pay CHF 6.00 again!

So, if you want the goods to be sent again, and it was your mistake that the goods were delivered to the false address, expect to pay the effective charges again.

EDIT: to be more precise: CHF 6.00 (first postage) + CHF 6.00 (back to sender) + CHF 6.00 (second postage) = CHF 18.00 (plus any packaging fees that may have been charged in the first place), so it's quite an expensive mistake to make.
These are not penalties as such, the post just wants each way/service to be paid for!

Do you really have to pay? I sent a christmas present to a friend in Scotland on 12 Dec. It wasn't collected and was posted back to me on the 15th Jan...I found it in my postbox last week and I didn't have to pay a thing.

Then you were either lucky or you will get a bill later...

.. or somebody in Scotland paid for the return postage (good deed of the day kind of thing?)..
