And yes, I would agree with the lady of your acquaintance, that does wonders for me too... but not always available.
I can give you a jar, if you like...

Why, do you have a supplier? I mean... erm... well, I suppose from my vantage point you could qualify as "younger".

Thanks, but I prefer my trusted supplier. Plus I wouldn't want to cause any problems with the customs due to import/export restrictions...

Re: What face gels/cosmetics/toiletries do you use?

Expensive creams are a con, cheap ones are full of random stuff. The only things proven to work are Retin A, sunblock, cold cream, lipchap, and maybe regenerist. T get maximum benefit you have to exfoliate, basically scrub off dead skinbut go easy if you are using retin A! If you really want to look good exercise, diet and cosmetic fillers and Botox done by a medically registered dermatologist. I used to buy expensive stuff, now I don't bother. The only thing that I have liked recently to play with is stuff from Sephora, in particular Fiberwig mascara. Also I like to go on youtube and watch the gay guys and an asian girl do make-up and hair, they are really good.

Hi Nina,

Like you, I like to find a good bargain product but there a few things I don't skimp on. I've always had problems finding a good mascara. For some reason I always end up with "panda eyes" with mascara but I am loving Diorshow Blackout at the moment. One application and your lashes look amazing and no flaking or rubbing off under your eyes.

The absolute best product I've found in the last 5 years in Bobby Brown moisturisingfoundation. If you want your skin to look unbelievable in photos then you must wear this.

I've been trying some of the supermarket and pharmacy moisturisers and face cleansers here but haven't found anything I would rave about. I quite like a brand called Caudalie which does a nice face cleanser . It is a french brand. Found it in Manor.

Looking forward to everyone elses tips.

Mel
I love Caudalie (moisturizing cream)but it doesn't have SPF and is quite expensive (31 CHF/40 ml),the face cleanser costs 11 CHF you can find it in Manor or some pharmacies.I don t know if I have to change this brand or notanyway the natural cosmetics is now in. Did anybody try AVERA,ANNE MARIE BÖRLIND,MAC (consealer)???

When it comes to my face - there are 2 brands I trust for years - Avene and Pure&Simple. The Pure&Simple is not available here I am afraid - it is a natural, no chemicals, no preservatives whatsoever brand. If anyone knows a similar brand, it would be great to share. I have quite dry and sensitive skin and those products are the best (Vichy didn't do that good job)

Hair products - I have no clue which are the "natural" products around - shampoo and conditioner I mean. I still have anti-freeze cream, but soon I'll be out and I have no clue what I'll do.

Sorry for talking about natural stuff but in some cases, I find them much better, tolerable and appropriate for each type of skin. I even use deodorant that contains no preservatives and chemicals...
(I 'bolded' some of the words above.)
Sara, if there are no chemicals and preservatives, what would they contain? And how come it doesn't go bad within a couple of weeks? Don't kid yourself.
So-called 'natural' products contain a bit of natural extracts but they still need to be preserved and do contain chemicals; probably they contain fewer allergens that you are averse to. That's why some 'natural' products suit some people but not others.

Talking about natural products, I think Lush does a decent job. Some of their products (which they say contain no preservatives) do go bad after the expiry date which is generally less than a month or so, and they need to be refrigerated all the while too..really like their oatmeal soap bar..forgot its name, but its nicely exfoliating and moisturising at the same time. But I guess it can be made at home for less than half the price ..if you got the patience.

Re: What face gels/cosmetics/toiletries do you use?

OK, this is not local but I have ordered stuff from http://www.strawberrynet.com before and their service is excellent. They have, for example, the Shiseido whitening line and Dermologica, just two name two brands. It's not Sephora but ...

As for my take on the natural v chemical issue, I use, as I said, mostly Alima as they do not use certain chemicals that many makeup products contain that are known to cause problems for some people. What I like is that they give a clear list of what is in and what is not in their products with explanations. So, for example, I can't wear most lipsticks or even use most lip balms because my lips react: dry out and peel. Not attractive. I have tried some "natural" lipsticks with the same reaction. Alima has a light lip tint that works for me, but in general I don't bother.

In terms of creams and what not, I am vain enough to use "chemicals" such as glycolic acid because it works better than anything else I have tried.

Another website that I use is http://www.midwestskincare.com. Not cheap but very good service and quick shipping times.

Some of the preservatives and chemicals, as I call them, are completely artificial - this is what I meant.
You are right that it all depends on the personal preference and reaction although the ingredients extracted from fruits/vegetables/nature trigger less allergies and reactions compared to the other stuff
I know that this "natural" notion is all over but it has its reasons - years ago, the level of reactions and allergies were lower compared to nowadays. But it is another topic sorry

Once I tried to order stuff from StrawberryNet (they had a form that included keying in our credit card details). But after that I received an email from them asking me to send my credit card number again by replying the email, which I thought was dubious, so I cancelled my order and asked for a refund. They cancelled it but I did not get a full refund (they presumably charged some administrative fee). Needless to say I was cheesed off.

Did you get that follow-up email asking for your credit card number again after you had sumbitted your order?

Re: What face gels/cosmetics/toiletries do you use?

I am trying to get Bobby Brown to do my daughter's prom make-up, it isn't easy especially she will probably tan (which I am dead against) just before the prom. So if I order on-line now the shade will be wrong. I wish she would stick to false tanner. the fiberwig is fun to play with though. You keep building it up on the tips, and you can get the lashes as long as falsies. It doesn't clog, doesn't add thickness,(which is good for me) doesn't come off in the rain, stays on all day, doesn't bug me with sensitive eyes. It does come off easily with soap and water.

My daughter loves MAC make-up, and I have to say, the quality/price ratio is really good!

Bought some "Nuxe" honey cleanser yesterday and have just found my new favourite product...does any one else use "Nuxe" products?

No, I never had an experience like that at all. I've placed all my orders online and gotten the delivery in about a week, always with a free sample and a discount for repeated orders. I agree that it is very dubious to be asked to send credit card information by email. That is something I would never do.

On the advice of a very good friend, I've discovered the fine cosmetic properties of lard.

My face feels softer than ever before, more supple and moist, and the aroma is positively divine.

I'd recommend it. They're probably selling it cheap at Migros at the moment, or something.

Hmmm.......strange......
Is someone influencing your divine choice of skin care, MathNut??
