What's wrong with the world today?

Is it the "11" that is jinxed?
Is the world just going crazy? Is it just the normal effect of the full moon?
I meet w/ a friend at a local shooting range tonight. He's waiting outside - "Dude, no training tonight for sure".
Eyes fall on the police car.
Young woman rented a gun and committed suicide while she was alone in the range.
Two cops question the owner of the range. Business as usual, someone is nursing beer at the bar of the range. That's what is scary. Business as usual.
This, plus the horrible news out of Germany and Alabama before that... I really feel shell-shocked and a bit out of touch w/ reality.

Forgive the rambling post. Really not feeling that ok tonite...

Paul

Re: What's wrong with the world today?

Sorry to hear about the girl Uncle Groove, it does seem crazy at times that life goes on as normal when so many horrible things are happening. It just seems that so many things are beyond our control and swamp us with sadness.
It's when it overwhelms us that we should seek out something nice, something positive.
I'd rather give you a hug than try and put my empathy into words that possibly have no chance of letting you know I feel the same at times.

and it was 5 years today the Madrid bombings took place. I used to take that train everyday, in a different direction, but nevertheless, that same train; and i knew some of the victims. Not a good day today

Very touching but life goes on. Lady commited suicide which means she was not murdered. What difference would it have made if the range was closed for the day? Lady is gone so she won't be coming back unfortunately. A cold hard look at reality will tell you that life is very cheap irrespective of what we tell each other.

Same that was always wrong with it and same that will always be wrong with it as long as humans exist. Now cheer up and enjoy what little time you have got on this round ball called Earth.

Re: What's wrong with the world today?

Thank you, everyone...
Day II, feeling less disconnected.
Yes I know perfectly well that the girl could have chosen to take her life by other means, and all that, but the big issue for me still today lies in how "normal" and unreal everything was.
What I'm really not willing to understand is how can someone - in this case the owner of the range - just willfully choose to ignore what apparently were "a number" of hints / signals.
Multiply this "willful ignorance" - i.e. the act of choosing to ignore instead of choosing to act - by millions of occasions and people, every day. To me it's mind boggling, just absolutely so.
If we really want to qualify that as being "normal", well, then I'll call myself a madman...

"Every day above ground is a good day."

We will all be dead for a very long time. Life is a momentary spark in an eternity of darkness. How's that for a cheery thought?

Re: What's wrong with the world today?

That's kinda strange. I've really had my fill with bad news yesterday too. Just too many horrible things happened at the same time, either in this country or/and in the world, I really couldn't handle one bit more. I didn't watch tv, nor listened to the radio and even today I didn't have the courage, to read a paper or listen to any news whatsoever. Too much is too much.

Re: What's wrong with the world today?

Folks, I learned long ago that we all suffer depression, anxiety, and all those other "bad" emotions, to varying degrees, at different times. Some people are more affected than others, and take actions we don't fully understand. But if we dwell on the unknown reasons, we become more susceptible to those emotions.
There's nothing wrong with depression and anxiety, for the most part. They serve to highlight the joy of other times.
You can't always help people. And once it's done, it's done. Afterward, you will only be able to help others if you move on yourself.
I don't mean to sound heartless, but that's how I see it.

Also was a bad day for me. The thread title reminded me of Marvin Gaye song. So I pulled out an old CD. Nice how Marvin Gaye can turn a bad day into a sexy day.
