CHF75 energy refund in BaselStadt

The other day I got a letter, in German, telling me (I think) that I'm to be given 75 francs as some kind of canton-wide thing to do with energy saving. Considering I can only (sort of) read German by pretending it's Old English, I may have misunderstood.

This may be foolish but I filled in the form with my bank account number and mailed it today. I figure they can't do much other than pay in money with the details in that form. Anyway, I've already decided how to spend my ill-gotten gains.

Did anyone else get this rather lovely little letter & have I understood it correctly? What's it all about anyway?

I'm having trouble uploading the scanned attachment - will perservere, am probably being stupid but there is further info at www.bonusbasel.ch - that bit was easy to read though Old English had no need for 'look at our website' ;-)

I've received the same thing - and with a quick glance I came to the same conclusion: fill out the details and get 75CHF back However, I have not read it through thoroughly or the fineprint (my German is not to good...)

Re: CHF75 energy refund in BaselStadt

Thank you PF - and thank you, too JRSPet for fixing the complicated scannie thing.

I'm glad you came to the same conclusion PF but also encouraged that more than one of us EF people having received the letter makes it seem more legitimate. I vaguely recall the form saying it would be paid in June, but 10CHF less would be paid if you chose to get a pink slip instead of direct to bank payment.

Time to fire up my calculator & figure out how many Migros caramel choccie bars I can get for 75 francs! Enough to make me very sick, I'm sure.

Excellent. Thank you. I'd heard of that but wasn't sure how to find it ort use it.

I've had a happy little read of the translation you linked & concluded I'll be scoffing 46.8 bars of caramel choccie in June. I might round it up to 50 and get really really sick

Re: CHF75 energy refund in BaselStadt

I might be naïve but anytime I get one of these envelopes with the Basel thingy (the black backwards "f" thingy) and the word AMT bla bla I kind of assume it to be legit...
But it is probably good to run it through a translator... as well

I'm the same - complete faith in any official logo, be it Cablecom, UBS, Swisscom, the post people, anything. Funny thing is, I'd probably be more likely to fall for a scam in my native English!

Re: CHF75 energy refund in BaselStadt

So, looks like we're all agreed it's not a scam. Does anyone know why we're getting this money?

I know it's something to do with using energy effectively & efficiently but do they just give it to all residents, regardless of individual energy consumption? For the collective consumption to be low, someone spent the winter in the dark with no heating to make up for my addictions to heat and light!

Re: CHF75 energy refund in BaselStadt

You can plan how to spend the money, this is not a scam. My husband (who's german) told me that this week. They give money back because of the profit they made this year, they share and give back a part of it.

I think, if I remember well what he told me, it's 75 CHF per person per house.

Enjoy!

Re: CHF75 energy refund in BaselStadt

Thank you. That makes perfect sense now. I like profit-sharing - kind of like getting dividends on shares.

Somehow, I'm struggling to imagine my previous UK energy supplier giving any money back to anyone ever. This refund is roughly equivalent to the electricity bill I got late last year so, to date, I've broken even on fuel costs - till I get the 'correction' bill for having my heating on 'sub tropical' all winter!

Today, I'm liking living in Switzerland.

Re: CHF75 energy refund in BaselStadt

I have heard that in Basel they often tend to 'overshoot' your utilities costs, as I have also received about 350.- CHF back from my rent as I paid too much in my utililities (the fixed Nebenkosten in my rent) last year. The 75.- CHF will be paid in July 2009, so long as you fill out the form and send it back in time. You can also opt to NOT receive the money As IF!

As far as I know, this is unique to Basel. Do keep in mind that we pay a ridiculous amount of taxes compared to other cantons

I wish that was the case with me....despite paying nebenkosten every month I was smacked with a 1000CHF bill when vacating my apartment in January for additional heating costs. WTF!

Ouch! That's not even for a full winter if you were charged up to January.

Looks like the 75chf will have to go into a 'just in case' fund for when my heating habits catch up with me!

What makes it even better is I was living in my new place from October onwards to didn't even use heating or electric apart from having the radiators on low to stop them freezing up
