Re: Swiss coins

about a month ago I found a 20 rappen piece from 1913.... Can you imagine what this coin would have 'seen' ? I know 20 rappen is not much now, doesn't buy you anything but what would it have bought back in 1913 ?

Re: Swiss coins

Maybe a bit irrelevant for this thread, but have anybody ever tried to change 50 chf note to 2 chf coins? Where can I do that for free or for a small fee?

Thanks,

If you increase that to 100.- you get a neat roll (applies to all coin sizes, 50 get you a roll)

You'd be better off doing that in Germany or France.

Most Swiss banks don't like to handle foreign coins.

That probably depends on the volume, and banks may handle things differently if you're not a customer.

Euro coins: No, too heavy for the value.

Re: Swiss coins

Got here after odd results searching for the word "Vrenlis" on Google.

If I try to pay parking, and the machine is "giving lip," I have wondered, does that make the parking free? Leave a note in one of the 4 languages if possible on the windshield. It is worth a shot. You might get by or get a less painful, less costly punishment?

Times are HARD these days in 2020. I am reading ads about people buying people's jewelry and "Vrenlis."

Things don't have to get this bad.....do they???

Also to try on those stern and stubborn machines that reject coins - try a different technique. Try up to 5 times or whatever you have the patience for, vary the nudge of the index finger. And yes, if you spend THAT much time handling the coin and coercing the machine, DISINFECT your fingers!

If a vending machine refuses to accept your 0.50chf, 1chf, 2chf or 5chf coin, don't smash the machine. Instead take a look the coin. Good chances are its made of silver.

If it is dated 1967 or earlier, then bingo, its real Ag. Not worth much, but worth collecting. Coin counting machines, which reject silver coins, are slowly weeding them out of circulation.

The exception is 1969 5chf coins, which can also be silver. For some reason after whacking out a shitload of copper-nickel "Fünflebers" in 1968 (common as dogturds), they went back to silver for one more year.

Just yesterday I was wondering why a parking meter would not accept my 0.50chf coin when it says it should. Looked at it and it was 1934.
