May Day - Any family activities

Are there any good family activities tomorrow in and around the Zurich and East Switzerland. I know some of you are working and that there will probably be demonstrations in Zurich city centre.

Re: May Day - Any family activities

Just don't go down town Zurich.

We went to the Jucker Farm last Sunday - we went to the one in Seegräben. It was really nice with plenty to do for kids, such as playing in the straw, trampoline, feeding goats and toy tractors and wheelbarrows to borrow. Nice walks in the area, looks down onto the lake Pfäffikersee and:

Local asparagus is now in season.

The food in the restaurant there is excellent. Loads of herbs, plants and flowers to buy to take home with you.

I can highly recommend it as a day out in the country - especially for our city kids!

Hi

I was thinking the same...Is everyone off tomorrow and is it business as usual for stores (that would be a treat)?

Re: May Day - Any family activities

Does a "staying with better half in bed and procrastinating till late afternoon" qualify as May Day activity for family

Down town Zürich (Bahnhofstr. Limmat-Quai) is generally OK, and perfectly safe if you want to see the official demonstation and parade. Just don't think about going to the Langstrasse and Helvetiaplatz area which is where the "celebrations" take place.

Having said that this year could turn out to be somewhat more unpredictable given the credit crisis and ensuing recession.

I was speaking to a prison guard last night, who obviously has a lot contact with the police, and the general feeling is that this year could be a biggie. So, if you do go downtown keep your head on a swivel, watch your back, and make sure you know where you are and how to get out if trouble starts.

Nevertheless I shall be present, camera in hand, as always.

A little taster from last year

My point exactly: the OP was asking for family activities. I don't call taking pics of some nut-head demo a "family" activity. We're staying well out of the way.

This article says banks are especially counting on getting "hit", have blocked their windows. Even Globus at Bellevue is boarded up, Sprüngli at Paradaplatz too.

This really is a bit silly here in Neuchâtel. Most parents have to work and the kids are off at least the kids can do their shopping !!!
