Re: Eurovision - anybody watching?

After some Corona's and a glass of my wife's Martini, (yeah, right), I love Eurovision.

And, Graham Norton is great.

So freaking beautiful (Sweden)

Tips to win? Wee lass from Belgium?

Thankfully, after three hours, I've finished my cigar, so can go to bed at my pleasuere.

Reminds me of a retired buddy who once said.

What I used to spend all night doing, now takes me all night to do.

Come to think of it, not sure he meant having a good smoke.

Come on, people. What's YOUR favourite performance of the night?
I couldn't decide between France and Portugal....loved both of them. But well, it's an entertaining show after all.
Bulgarian song was also nice. Moldova, the same. So....approximately in this order.

The Dutch sisters cried at the end of a song called Cry no more....

And my country gave them 12 points...lol. Why? I have to agree with the Portuguese singer - the result is somehow comforting...

Nope. Bookmakers will be happy to take your bets - for next year's competition.

Yeah, Norton is that great he couldn't even pronounce correctly where Lucie Jones actually came from. Absolutely shocking.

Yes, I agree. Eurovision is very much about popularity, about the way you promote your song, etc. etc. etc. The apparition you have on the stage, the way you are dressed etc etc. Btw, Switzerland was totally self-sabotaging an otherwise good(ish) song (composed by a British composer btw, it definitely deserved more than others to be in the final objectively speaking) by dressing the poor singer in that horrific outfit, fixing her on a high platform....I mean, really? They should sue that silly scenographer. The singer couldn't transmit any energy, nothing. Failed Celine Dion copy over again. So, apart from the classic regional sympathies e.g. Norway or Finland voting for Sweden and vice versa......there's more.

Bottom line is: when you're from Portugal and you get votes from Armenia and Adzerbaidjan, I would say it's definitely something special about your music or you, or both. I liked it, although to my relatively ignorant ears it's just another Portuguese fado, but gwonderful music nevertheless.
I think I liked France a little bit more, actually. Would never bet on them though, if I had to do that, because on a popularity scale from 0 to 10 they are somewhere between 2 and 3.......no matter what they will ever sing. IMO..But I'll gladly stand corrected. Anytime.

Portugal's victory might (just might) mean a beginning of a reverse trend in the music of Eurovision. I wouldn't hold my breath though, people want entertainment....starting right from the national selections. I'm sure that not the best songs make it to Eurovision to begin with. People are superficial. Well, most of them, and if it's the public vote that gets you there...

In case you didn't get it...I'll watch it next year too...
And I'll watch the Eurovision of choirs from Riga too, lol.

She and one of the others were actually Romanian.
