Maybe you are driving straightforward where there is no road built. No wonder the ride is bumpy.

Again: orientation and gender issues are totally distinct. It's a very complex combination game where all kind of combinations are possible, from huge majority to rare case and everything in-between.

Re: Eurovision - anybody watching?

Would Conchita Wurst really win the show if the public votes were decisive?

An interesting article:

While I preferred the Polacche for certain, umm, motives (not least of which is that both my wife and I have Polish ancestors , albeit 150 years or so ago, but it's our only common blood), we were in the end rooting in favor of the Wurst.

yup, ok.. but that's not the point.. what did she represent that carried the masses ?

Olygirl's idea of non-genderism is interesting.
Showing the middle finger to all conventions?

Maybe we shouldn't read that much between the non-existent lines. Here's what she declared herself

So 36 of 37 countries gave their votes in English. Only one country used their native tongue - not hard to guess: France. And they came last...
Agree..but isn't French an official language of the Eurovision contest (they say also the results in French like "la Suisse douze points" ) ?

Now seriously I don't have anything against gays but having them vowing to take over the world and getting into the center stage at everything is another thing altogether. The question is whether you like a club of fags partying inside your house. To me it feels the same way when they take over the Eurovision stage. I will never watch Gayrovision again.

It's not that "teenager-like". It's a real fundamental question about gender. I don't get it either, I don't have that problem, but one can listen and widen one's knowledge about gender facts. Science is one thing, but who reads reports of psychology, sociology and gender study from renowned universities? I get to a certain extend this kind of thing through teacher further training and development, but that's just the surface too.

Again, Tom/she is questioning society in the face of this fact. Denying it is no option to these people. They make sure that the majority that can afford to deny it because they are not concerned get it right in their face, that's all. It's not even about gay issues but about gender issues, and it is easy to understand that it is not related. The sensitivity and necessary mind openness is understandably bigger in the gay community but it is just a consequence of the situation, not linked by causality at all. Any psychology and sociology interested person can do the same.

Only because the French insisted that their language be used too for things like Eurovision, the Olympics, etc, when these events were first being set up. They hoped to stop the tide of English overrunning their language - good luck with that.

By the way, you can blame the Swiss for Eurovision.

Re: Eurovision - anybody watching?

All the music (and lack thereof) aside, did anyone else enjoy the film clips that preceded each act?

I must admit I am pretty easily entertained - but I think I ended up watching a bit more than I would have (sitting on a wooden stool w/ipad) because I was curious to see how the flags evolved. The German film was pretty catchy - the act not

Welcome to the club.
I think Armenia had something cute, if my memory serves me right. And Hungary.

Re: Eurovision - anybody watching?

I also appreciated the one about the Norwegian making wooden window and door frames, the UK one was clever, the Italian one made me long for some mozzarella that hasn't entered my fridge in a sealed plastic sack... I can't remember the Austrian one, or the Swiss clip (was probably when children came by to raid the fridge)

Conchita is like an optical illusion that challenges perceptions. Ladies with beards may become a trend in today's world of non-genderism.
