where to buy: distilled water

new thread alert!! (sorry, but i searched and searched, please move if necessary)

That being said,

Where can I buy distilled water?

In case you are curious, distilled water is recommended for use in the steaming part of an iron. I need distilled water for another reason. I dropped my camera in the washing machine, and after burying it in uncooked white rice overnight, it still works (the rice dries out the electronic components). But, now there is a film on the lens, probably due to the soap. My pictures look like abstract art, which I find cool, but not as memorable. I need to repeat the dunking process with distilled water, then also repeat the rice part.

thanks!

It's called destilliert wasser, can be found in quite large bottles in both Migros and Coop where you find the cleaning stuff.

I didn't think to look in the cleaning section, or the pharmacy - thanks!

I'll report back if it's not at my local (small) coop.

Coop...
http://coopathome.ch/b2c_coop/catalo...000000A0301CE#

or

Migros
http://www.leshop.ch/leshop/ProductD...ference=291080

You can find distilled water in the section with washing power and other cleaning stuff of the physical shops.

However, if there is a "film" over the lens, maybe it would be better to get some 70% cleaning alcohol. You can get that in any pharmacist.

Do you think the 70% cleaning alcohol would etch away at any of the circuitry?

Re: where to buy: distilled water

AFAIK, the water sold in the Coop and Migros is not generally real distilled water (i.e., boiled to steam and then condensed) but produced by ion exchange. One's as good as the other for most purposes.

The Real McCoy is sold in the big German DIY stores (e.g. Hornbach in Binzen and Bauhaus in Lörrach) at a good price.

No it will be fine. We clean circuit boards with alcohol.

Not sure what it will do to the lens coating though..

No, you will be fine... If you want something even better than just "normal 70%", get some isopropyl alcohol (better known as rubbing alcohol), is has the added benefit, that it evaporates quickly giving a better chance that it will not leave marks.

If you ask any "good" IT or electronics guy/girl, they would prefer isopropyl over 70% alcohol.
