Re: Who watches Swiss TV channels?

Try the regional news Schweiz Aktuell. It would be good material to fall asleep if it wasn't aired at 19:00 already.

Re: Who watches Swiss TV channels?

Swiss channels are the only ones I watch.. at least when there is a film or tv series and I can switch it to English -if it is an english film. And they seem to show always some good films either in the german, or french or italian swiss channels. Last day there was "children of men" - i watched it for the tenth time I think!

Re: Who watches Swiss TV channels?

Hi,

I will try and catch the news on Zuri fernsehen....as they refer to SF1 here. For local news I often try to catch up on TeleBasel.

I can never understand why so many people buy flat tv screens as there is very little content in HD is broadcast---a hand full of channels at best and standard definition tv looks totally crap on a flat screen tv and that is probably what you expect people to watch 80% of time.

The answer in the shops is always people watch a lot of dvds/blue ray discs so maybe you are right that a lot of people here don't watch a lot of tv.

Have fun

Martin

Re: Who watches Swiss TV channels?

Obviously there is news-Novartis just invented an injection against Swine Flu-apparently weeks head of schedule. What about the uiversities- do they have any TV stations-I am guessing that I would enjoy one of those. Where do the Swiss study TV journalism?

I watch Temps Present, the news, and sometimes infrarouge on TSR (streaming) ...and I am also a Top Gear/Clarkson fan (BBC America)!

Re: Who watches Swiss TV channels?

My personal impression is Swiss TV, like all parts of the planet I've visited, and especially the US, is not that good. And that view seems to be borne out by this thread.

So what the **** are we paying so much to Bill AG for?

I watch the Swiss Channels on regular cable.

I like the fact that you can switch the language to English on some series, sitcoms and movies.
Sir, how do you switch? through Teletex? if so, what is the number? please advice

Many thanks.

Here's the thread you are looking for

Changing TV programme language to English

But, as is explained, this is only possible for some movies and series and not all channels - try the SF/TSI/TSR/ORF channels.. it also is usually mentioned on the tv programme.

Re: Who watches Swiss TV channels?

Hey there,

I would like to watch some news, get to know the Swiss economy, politics etc.

Which channels do you suggest to watch? I live in Basel, so I have access to channels from this region.

When I used to live in Germany I really liked the "Morgen Magazin" on ZDF and I used to be up to date from the German happenings... Now I realize I have no clue about Swiss-stuff apart from the "20 Minutes" or "Blick am Abend" papers at the railway station.

Thanks a lot for the suggestions!

Cheers,
Vixy

Dual button for normal TV. On Swisscom TV use option button....and you get it!

Same time ...even if not english, subtitles via teletext are always helpful: use 777 for swiss channels, 888 for french ones.

News: "Tagesschau" at 19:30 (week days) on SF1 / "10 vor 10" at 21:50 (week days) on SF1
Political Discussions: "Arena" at 22:20 (every Friday) on SF1
Reports on current Economic / Political topics:
"Rundschau" 20:50 (every Wednesday) on SF1
Discussions/Documentations on Culture / Philosophy / Politics: "Sternstunden (Kultur/Philosophie/Religion)" at 10:00 on Sundays (Notice: This three programs can be veeeery dry and and go into great details. Do not watch while having a hangover. They can lead to bad trips as well, depending on the type of breakfast. While very informative if you are interested in the discussed topic, I just can not bear it on a regular basis.)

NZZ Standpunkte / NZZ Format / BAZ Standpunkte (all on SF1) are programs by 2 big Swiss newspapers and can be interesting, but I watch them only "by chance". Sonntalk (a political discussion every Sunday between the reports on cats and hedgehogs on TeleZüri) can be interesting as well and give some insight on the, let's say, more rural parts of Swiss politics.

If you get the chance: watch the programs on an election Sunday once, I think this could be interesting if you would like to know more about Swiss politics. The same is true if one day a Swiss Bundesrat has to be elected (or a General for that matter ).
