Video Art

After a visit to Art Basel i decided to buy video art. Anyone any experiece? i have the wall but not the eqipment or the work of art.

Should i just go for any old projector, and buy the work from students, and then glue it to the wall?

It's art: Do as you feel fit.

In many video installations, there's a tatty black and white television to show the art: This has its own qualities and, in itself, may be a comment upon the piece which may be as much a work of art as much as the alleged 'art' itself.

Alternatively, you can leave a wall blank, set up a projector, run the art through your DVD player or computer and run up an enormous electricity bill (not to mention the cost of a continuous stream of blown bulbs).

In my opinion, you'd be better off saving money and hiring Babe 2 for the evening: It'll be a better made commentary on human existence than any crap an art student might cobble together, and might even cheer you up a bit (if the talking monkeys don't disturb you too much).
