Re: Guitar players, musicians in Basel

Hey Craigh

I have a 5pc Kit sitting here doing nothing because of noise restrictions. I'll be keen to lug it over to Basel sometime. Im not the best player but would be keen to have a go. Any idea on the type of music that's going to be played?

Howdy NgaTaniwha, Noise restrictions only apply between 10 pm to 6 or 7 am in (as far as I know and I've lived in three Kantons), unless, of course, your feudal lord has dictated his/her own restrictions. I lived in Kleinlützel for a year and I was told that they could hear my guitar a half Km away...arr says I. Anyhow...I live in Zeiningen now and that's about 20 minutes, by train, out of Basel. I'm not very distant from Rheinfelden. I live in a very old house(possibly 200 years) and we only occupy about a third of it, however, if we got something together, we'd have to construct something to keep out the winter air. I'm pretty innovative when motivated.

As far as music genre goes, I'm hip to a fairly broad point of view, from Mississippi John Hurt to Tool, although, I'm a bluesman at heart. Best I've found about beginnings is to keep things simple and straight forward. What kinda stuff do you like to play?
I'm not to sure how these forums work, but I've left my e-mail address open, so, if you'd like, drop me a note and I'll give ya my phone no. ...Thanks for the reply, Johnny E.

My stuff should arrive from Canada next week, so I get to find out if my guitar and bass survived the journey.

I agree that post-New Year will be best.

Re: Guitar players, musicians in Basel

Hey Guys, I play guitar, and I would really like to meet up with more people who would like to Jam and maybe even think about getting a band together.

I've even gone around all the guitar shops looking at the ads for people wanting to start a band, but find that they are mostly looking for people wanting to play one specific type of music.

I am mainly rhythm though (don't want to make the guitar cry or sing ), and vocals. Used to play in a band back home.

Craigh if you and any other folks are looking for people to jam with, count me in too. Family is not around these days and having just been handed in my three months notice at work, really would like to have something to occupy my mind with.

Cheers and happy holidays to everyone.

OK its taken 3 weeks and I finally found out how to start a thread!!!!

Hi my name is Craigh. I moved here 3 weeks ago from South Africa. I don't work here but live with my girlfriend who does. Hopefully at some point I will find a way to get a visa to change this fact.

Looking to find anyone who wants to play guitar together as i need the practice and love playing. Not to fussy on what music we play as long as its not heavy classical stuff as i have NO idea on what to do there, I am not that quick at picking. I like rock, metal and anything with a guitar in it.

If anyone wants to play let me know.

Thanks for reading and if I have made any glaring errors please go easy on me :-)

Not sure where Zeiningen is.

My bass is here, but I have no amp yet (couldn't convert it to Euro power). Still interested in coming out and meeting you guys, though.

When & where?

Yeah, 50 Hz, 230/400 is pretty tough on Canadian/American equipment. There used to be a music store over at the Rhein cntr and he had used gear in there. Been awhile since I've been over there though. Zeiningen is about 20 min. east of Basel by train. we're very close to Möhlin which is the next stop east of Rheinfelden. The village is just above Möhlin. I can leave my phone no. but I need to leave it with a personal message to you which I can't seem to locate a place to do so. I don't care to leave a lot of personal info. for the general public to see. Let me know how to contact you or leave a number and I'll give you directions and a time. Looks like we're gonna be set up by next week if all goes well.
Take care brother ...Johnny

Re: Guitar players, musicians in Basel

Hey guys,

Just stumbled on this thread. I'm also living in Basel and would like to either join or put together a band or jam group to play blues/rock.

Aspiration would be finding people who are into improvisational blues/rock/jazz fusion (The Allman Brothers Band, Gov't Mule and the likes), but since that might be a tall order, playing straight-up good old blues tunes would be great.

Doesn't seem to fit with the above mentioned interests/genres but just thought I might give it a try.

Other than that, if anyone wants to meet to talk about music over drinks I'd be definitely up for that too.

Cheers

Re: Guitar players, musicians in Basel

Hi JP,

This is not going to be much a of a music year for me (other than jamming at home with my kids!). Still trying to get settled and adapt to Swiss daily life.

My bass cab is on it's way, and then I'll look for a new amp, and I'll keep tabs on this thread.

Talk to Johnny E.

We're moving over early December (just had the offer yesterday, touch wood) and I'll bring a drummer who can also play the guitar. Just don't let him sing!

I'm tone deaf so maybe I could be the groupie and bring beer.

Re: Guitar players, musicians in Basel

Hi all - just arrived in Basel (from Seattle) and would love to meet some musicians. I have been a drummer most of my life but also play a bit of guitar, piano, etc. and love to write and arrange. I also have a small project studio that is on its way here (and the new house should have space for jamming). Everything should be here by mid-September.

Let me know if anyone is still interested in jamming/writing...

Robert

Hey Robert, my name's Johnny. I spent several years in Seattle,(Lynwood) and i've worked all over washington. we've got a rock/hard blues band going. All electric. Right now there are 3 of us. Myself, another guitarist and a drummer. I've got a keyboard set up and we're looking for musicians, especially a Bassist. If you want to jam, [PM me]..I will not reply to the forum. Peace, johnny

Re: Guitar players, musicians in Basel

Hey everyone,

my name is John and I've been living in Basel for about two years now.

Me and a German friend who has been living here for many years are trying to start a band to play blues/jazz/funk/fusion music. We've already found a saxofone player, he's a drummer and I play guitar and harmonica.

Basically, we are looking for the other basics to get the wheels in motion: a bass player and a singer, but also a keyboardist and other people to join in the brass section would be great.

We all have day jobs, so this is definitely a hobby (think 1 rehearsal a week and the occasional gig when we feel up to it).
If anyone out there is interested, please PM me and we'll talk more about the musical influences and how to move forward.

We already found one of the most difficult things here which is the space to practice - a great room very conveniently located right by the Basel SBB. We will share it with another band, thus making it even more attractive cost-wise (equipment can be left in the room).

After a long and winding road trying to start a new band, things are finally looking up. Hope someone out there is interested!

Thanks
