For the big and beautiful ladies I mimic, "if you got it, flaunt it!"
I feel that it's probably easier for a curvy woman to find great
clothes in Europe because everyone is so tiny. My bestfriend's favorite
store in the US is Lane Bryant. Does a store like that exist in CH?
p.s. I think this would be a great dress for a curvy girl because of the vertical line details down the front.
Alas, I have yet to find one such store here, not only did I shop there but I have occasionally earned extra cash by doing part-time stints as a "sales associate" at LB stores.
Unfortunately, not only do they not have any stores here, they do not even ship here.
HOWEVER
A careful perusing of H&M, CA (C&A? something like that) and Takko usually will yield up some good finds as long as you're not looking for something specific.
Also, I occasionally shop the catalogs, Bon Prix among them.
I miss being able to find some good jeans though, all of the ones I've found here are the low-cut variety, I'm not keen on that look that some of the large gals here tote... low wasted jeans cutting into their hip fat.
There's someplace else my mum-in-law shops... hmm Charles Vogele maybe? They also have a "grosse" size department but the fabric and styles are not often to my taste.

Just bought one of these fleece socks at Tchibo today.
There is a little pillow with grape seeds at the bottom, which you can take out and warm in the oven.
Now the winter can come.

Having lived in London for 5 years where its wet and cold (not as cold as here in winter tho) and the dampness just seeps into ur bones I have learnt a lot of lessons on winter dressing.
Start with a good coat - I have several - a feather and down one and a nice thick wool one that comes out in the weekends / evenings.
Add some nice pretty / colourful scarfs, hats and leather gloves to the mix. I just brought a fab pair of olive green leather gloves!
I love knee high boots with skirts (long or short) and tights. U can get some fab wool tights nowdays and with ur nice warm coat over the top u wont feel cold!!
I have to say tho that I do most of my shopping in London as the range is soooooo much better than here in Zurich and its cheaper (even with the flight cost)

I thought I'd boost this as I was in one of the local Ulla Popken stores over the weekend and noticed they have some really nice items. It seems (although the woman working there denied it) they may have gotten a new buyer / fashion consultant.
They have some really cute long sweaters there, as well as for the more active "larger" gals, they do have SKI ATTIRE! Amazing!
Almost makes me want to take up some skiing just to justify buying "Nordic winter" motif sweaters and ski pants.
Oh! I nearly forgot as well: Lane Bryant has does offer international shipping now!!

For men, THE must have fashion accessory for winter is the Flat Cap. It's all the rage at the moment, trust me. | The following 2 users would like to thank grumpygrapefruit for this useful post:

And, according to Wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flat_cap
(under history of the flat cap)
This style of cap is also referred to in some parts of the UK as a cheesecutter cap because of its wedge shape.
Personally, I'd like some earmuffs. My sister tried to talk me into baseball cap with ear flaps, but I passed on that. So not me.
That Ulla Popken stuff does look a lot better than it used to, too. Huh.

Oh! I nearly forgot as well: Lane Bryant has does offer international shipping now!! | | | | | You know, I got kind of interested because I used to find good stuff in Lane Bryant when I lived in the US. I just checked out their website now, and there's more on the Ulla site that I'd want than on the LB site. I think my tastes have become Eurofied
But I was stunned at the price of their bras. I would buy a style from them (still wearing them) whenever I was in the US as they were cheap and extremely comfortable. They now only offer black ones online - but they are over £25! Before shipping! I used to buy them 2 for $30.
So perhaps it is a good thing I'm finding their clothes to be a bit too outdated for me!

I remember just before I moved here though that they were opening up a few boutique type shops with "Cacique" next door - sort of a plus size VS type shop. (I'm now imagining all the non-Americans and non-British reacting in horror at this idea )
Click the "Cacique" tab, there should be a much more plentiful selection there of everything for under-the-clothes as well as pj's and such.
So far as pricing goes, I think when you look at it from "here" (international) they have VAT and whatever added into the price, so that maybe influencing? Still, it's good to see it that way if that's the case, so you can see the real cost.
So far as Grumpygrapefruit's flat cap ... what's the "must have" winter head coverage for the gals? |

Maybe I'm too much of a geek but every time I see a woman in Ugg boots and bling I just think she looks like cattle. I mean, stuff that makes sense, is comfortable and looks nice is one thing but...fashion for the sake of the 'me too' fashion factor makes me cringe. Makes me think of California and eurotrash girls.

I've been thinking about picking up a pair of "ugg style" boots from Claires or someplace like that (cheap)... my poor knock-off crocks are worn out and I need something besides straight up slippers to wear when I have to schlep laundry up and down multiple flights of stairs. |

I wondered what part of her brain malfunctioned when she thought there were for anything approximating cold weather, much less cold, wet, snowy weather. I think they'd make great indoor slippers though. |
