Only owners that smoke don't want to ban smoking, and even some smoking owners don't mind the ban due to the cost of upkeep. Why do the anti-ban forces keep ignoring the facts?

Brian.
Same reason you keep ignoring the fact people choose smoking establishments over non-smoking ones. Non smokers want a smoke free environment, so decided everyone must have a smoke free environment, whether they want it or not, where's the choice?

No they don't. The fact is there are hardly no non-smoking establishments today, so the majority of the population don't have a choice.

Smokers and non-smokers will never see eye to eye.

Why is that? For such a huge market, you'd think they'd cater to it.

I think the majority of the non smokers like the idea of going to a smoke free bar, but will probably only go down once in a blue moon for a half and take up the tables for a couple of hours.

I like dirty, smokey bars and clubs, it's all part of the charm.

So motorcyclist should have the choice whether they wear a helmet or not and motorists whether they wear a seat belt...

Why do you equate non smokers with non drinkers?
And as for nursing a drink all night, we're not all French you know.

Re: Smoking bans to be effective 1st May 2010

First, apologies if this is covered in the 300+ posts here, but I couldn't read them all.

Does anyone know how the new federal smoking ban will impact the public transport network? ie. will smoking be banned in train stations, on train platforms, at bus stops, and air terminals.

I ask because some cantons have already done the smoking ban, but these places don't seemed to be touched, or is everyong doing it there illeagally?

I don't think it covers anywhere that can be considered 'open', like a train station platform.

Really???? So the new cantonal laws for Zurich completely outlaw smoking, in all restaurants, pubs, and clubs, regardless of their size?????

Is that for sure?
Let's hope so.

Charming, hardly.

I go to a bar to have some drinks and convo, listen to music. Not to smell someone's smoke stink.

Enjoy smoking outside when it's freezing out.

Ahh smokers v non-smokers.

Personally I wouldn't just ban smoking I would ban smokers...I would have the army out using smokers as target practice, make it more of a game for the smokers and like a realistic training session for the army.

It's funny how similar smoking debates are to religious debates on EF.

I don't buy that, but I am pretty irrational about smoking, I'll admit it, I know it's bad for me, and for others. But bars are places for consenting adults, not mollycuddled children.

There's no law banning non smoking pubs, non smokers are simply jealous of the cool places we get to hang out in.

A triumph of democracy.

At least here there are exceptions, but it looks like Zurich's bars will be filling with the self righteous.

There's lots of "go to non-smoking cafe-restaurant" in the thread. Anyone can name at least one in Technopark area?

Fail to see how this is a moral self righteous issue. You smokers lost, move on.
