Where to buy a light box for SAD

Hello all .. my brother lives in Zurich and I would like to get him a light therapy box for Seasonal Affective Disorder. Does anyone know where I can order one and have it sent to him? I know the American versions won't work b/c of the difference in electricity. Any guidance would be appreciated.
Thank you.

I did a quick search with "Medizinbedarf" (medical equipment) and got this address list. Start with Medicare and, if they can't provide the light therapy box, they might have further contacts.

These guys seem to sell what you are looking for in Switzerland: http://www.sanalux.ch/

They are rather pricey though, so you may be better off looking to buy one in the UK and shipping it over. I've used products from Lumie before and they seem pretty good: http://www.lumie.com/

Skeptical.

Why don't you buy him a season pass to a ski resort to get into the sunshine?

The OP has asked a very serious question. Someone who needs light therapy suffers very unpleasant symptoms that can't be treated with sunshine only. What you do (tell me if I'm not right) is to make this topic a ridiculous affair.

Well yes, normally I try to turn things into a ridiculous affair, this is true. However, in this case, as the OPs brother lives in Zurich and not a far north location that only receives a few hours or no daylight during the winter months, this type of SAD is most likely caused by the cloud cover. For this type of SAD it has been shown that solar exposure (above the clouds) is effective. Exercise and outdoor activity, even when cloudy, is also effective.

A friend of mine at work got one of these from www.ebay.ch, he said it was an absolute bargain far cheaper than what the local suppliers were quoting over here, it was shipped over from the US.

If the brother would get a prescription from a doctor here in Swirzerland, his health insurance may cover a significant portion of the cost.

Plus the doctor would know where to buy one.

Good point, some of the Philips products are certified Medical Devices.

Re: Where to buy a light box for SAD

I use a light box, and in fact, just pulled mine out. I usually need it December through February, sometimes earlier if it's really foggy.

While exercise and getting outside is always helpful, sometimes people affected by SADS have a hard time getting going so they can get outside, so light boxes are really very useful. People use them even at lattitudes farther south (e.g., the northern US).

Here's the one I got last year - my former physician in the US thought it did everything needed for a reasonable price (79 euros). For use in Switzerland, your brother will need to get an EU-Swiss adapter for the plug. I can't remember the cost of shipping, however. Androv has other products that might be interesting as well. A prescription for one is also a good idea.
