Where Does Ottos Get their Stuff From?

I bought some tissues in Ottos last week for 2.50 CHF that had a Migros 5 CHF sticker on it. I also remember buying something else recently from there that had a Loeb or Coop sticker on it as well. Does Ottos buy their overstock? Or get whatever falls off the truck on the way to Coop/Migros?

...also I bought some Ice Tea on sale there last week as well. When I got it home, I noticed it expires at the end of the month. Now I'm drinking alot of ice tea every day ...I also bought a huge box of Halls cough-drops for 5 CHF last summer. Great deal. Normally 40 CHF or something. Then same thing, I noticed it expired in a couple of weeks. Does Ottos also buy stuff thats expiring and tries to hurry and sell it cheap?

PS- Always check the dates on any food items from Ottos

Re: Where Does Ottos Get their Stuff From?

I've never been to Otto's, but my understanding is that they do sell overstock. But if it makes you feel any better, I am always buying things at Coop that seem to expire the next week (or, in the case of regular fruits and veggies, rot within two days).

Is that Otto's Radikal? I know they buy liquidation items. I bought some marshmallows last summer for an incredibly cheap price.

Yeah, I get that too

At our Coop in Bremgarten AG they put a 25-75% price reduction on meat that is about to expire, so that works out well.

That's how we decide what's for dinner on shopping night

I always thought Ottos was a sx toy store only! Good to know they sell other "cheap" stuff too...

That's because there is Otto's and there's Otto's Radical. Not the same thing.

Re: Where Does Ottos Get their Stuff From?

In my driving around Basel and surroundings, I've seen quite a few Otto stores. Never been in one though.

Yes, specials are one thing. But I find in general that even the "normal" things expire more quickly. Sometimes I really miss the pesticides and preservatives of my homeland.

That Ottos also has quite a bit of end-of-line, etc. stuff and worth a look. There are quite a few of them around Basel.

There is also one in Allscwil, just past the last stop on the 8 tram. Not very good selection though...
