Westside near Bern.

Do a search as it's already been discussed.

Re: The biggest shopping mall in Switzerland?

Westside is 23500 square metres with 55 shops (http://www.westside.ch/Shopping.aspx?lang=en-US)

Balexert (Geneva) is 55000 square meters with 110 shops (http://www.extension-balexert.ch/Pre...istorique.html)

And I'm not sure it is the biggest.

Sihl City apparently has 100'000 square metres but this is not all shops. In the greater scheme of things, it's HUGE here but franky.....tiny
But you can arrive in a blue chariot rather than in your own tin box

The Tivoli-Spreitenbach is, with 70'000 m2 shopping area the largest shopping center in Switzerland, while the Glattzentrum only has 43'387 m2

Re: The biggest shopping mall in Switzerland?

Tivoli-Spreitenbach is the correct answer. It is actually 2 malls that were joined and recently renovated (used to be kind of scummy, but now is completely remodeled and nice). A huge IKEA is also nearby, also a Mcdonalds and Burger King down the road for those missing US fastfood. Also a big Media Markt a couple of miles away, with a great Mercado seafood shop across the street, and 2 indoor kid's play rooms nearby (one is called Trampolino).

Re: The biggest shopping mall in Switzerland?

It really wouldn't matter to me how large a shopping centre is in Switzerland. It will still be full of naff Swiss stores like H & M (acrylic heaven) C & A ( shut down years ago at home ) Chicoree (yuck) Calida ( granny sleepwear etc. ) The list goes on........

My advice would be to buy a cheap flight every few months and stock up at Bluewater. My Daughter and I have been home recently and really NOWHERE compares to shopping in UK, we really do have it all.

Correct. You may as well go into Zurich town

Here, size doesn't matter because they're all the same anyway.

Unfortunately it's all the based on the Germanic shopping experience, just more expensive than Germany, so many even Swiss now go to Lago in Konstanz regularly...off there now.

Hope those of you plane hopping are of course offsetting the carbon.

BTW is Bluewater now full? I left in '99 and it was just opening.

Re: The biggest shopping mall in Switzerland?

I visited the Christmas market in Kontanz during December. Whilst there, a group of us Ladies shopped in the Town as well as the market.
Some of the ladies I was with were trying on designer labels such as Boss and Hilfiger. I nearly chocked on the price labels. The response I got was, that is how much you pay for quality clothing, and where would you get these in the UK?

HELLO!!!! Errrrrr, every high street in every town, in the department stores, Bond St. Oxford St. Manchester, Glasgow, in fact EVERYWHERE you care to shop in the UK has fantastic clothing, not only designer labels (which I wouldn't waste my money on anyway, some of these designers are deluded if they think their clothes are worth the hideous prices!) We can get everything, Top quality, middle of the range (ie, M&S) and for teenagers, Top shop, Primark etc. Oh! and amazing ski wear from TK MAXX.

Switzerland and Germany's economy MUST be suffering, Their prices are inflated and everyone I know stocks up at home.

Re: The biggest shopping mall in Switzerland?

If you want the designer wear in Switzerland you just have to know where to shop..For example I buy designer shoes that were 400chf for 50chf...Clothing that was 600chkf for 100chf...Depending on which town you are in..In Kreis 5 there is a Greider Les Boutique check out...They have good sales..Something on sale can be 50% marked off of the sale price...I have found some nice Ralph Lauren shirts for 20chf!..the shoe store Trouvailles (sp?) over near Enge...Fantastic...Designer shoes and bags even for children..I have bought 275chf there for 35chf...You have to do your research but the deals are out there...

Bluewater? for the non-Brits would you care to expand on what/where it is and why is it so worth it?

"Suffering" is a very subtle word for the situation.

2010 is going to be even worse when unemployment hits the UK.
From what I can see, you are prety sheltered in Switzerland though I know your imports and exports are down 20% so even Swiss have cut down their expenditure.
I am just surprised how property development seems to continue in Switzerland as if nothing is changing (from what I can see in Ticino).

By the way, if you are after all those ostentatious bling brands, hit FOX TOWN in Mendrisio.

Bluewater is indeed a shopping centre, handily located miles out of London in Kent.

This Christmas I drove to the UK to stock up on brown sugar and clothes, and found everything I needed at the brand new Westfield shopping centre in Shepherd's Bush, in London. It is vast, and in a first for the UK, it has a large area of individual boutiques dedicated to "black label" fashion brands -- Prada, Armani, Max Mara, Jimmy Choo, etc. This Westfield is the largest urban shopping centre in Europe, and is the third largest luxury fashion shopping area in the UK after the West End and Knightsbridge shopping precincts (but warm, under cover, with great restaurants and cheap parking -- and just outside the congestion charging zone in London).

Nice to see the Aussies teaching the Brits how to run things ... again.

As for Swiss shopping centres that aren't the usual cookie-cutter dreadful Swiss experience, the new Stücki Centre in Basel is large, modern and has quite a few boutique-type stores.
