1. Patiot Act
2. IRS
3. Wastage (Food especially)
4. Rampant Consumerism
5. Not central to Europe for travel
6. Everybody takes pills to solve problems
7. Healthcare costs if you don't earn enough
8. Education if you don't earn enough
9. Difficulty of getting a green card if you don't have an American passport.
10. American English.....sorry it frustrates me but that is a personal thing.

These are the things that I found when I examined the US as a place to live. There were a lot of positives though and overall other than the first 6 points, the US generally won out against the UK.
It's all perspective really
1 Patriot Act. We can thank the terrorists for that, but it is unfortunate
2 IRS. What country doesn't want to collect taxes rightfully owed to them
3, Food Wastage Maybe true, but one can do something about it for themselves and influence others
4. Rampant Consumerism, What Western country doesn't depend on consumerism
5. Of course, but the USA has a variety of geography. There are many states I haven't even seen yet
6. Some do. But the US is not just New York and LA
7. Yes, this is an issue
8. There are state funded schools, but more should be spent on education.
9. Not so easy in other countries either
10. Think of it as a learning experience and enjoy the differences

Given all that. I'll be moving to the UK anyway

It is ALL perspective! Or at least I think that is what some philosopher said.

Yes, and we have UK and US foreign policy to thank for the terrorists...lol. Seems a little like a vicious circle that those governments are not willing to try and break.

I love the UK a lot, I mean it is the land of my birth culture and having lived in and loved London for 13 years, it will always be very close to my heart. The simplest reason for me moving was that I could not take the politics and apathy about the problems there any more and the constant bashing of people with any ambition who wanted to earn a good living also got me down.
That and practical health care for my father are the two biggest reasons that I will not live in the UK until they have fixed these issues.
And before anybody goes off about changing things if you want them fixed, I spent a hell of a lot of effort trying to change minds both in people and government to little avail. When I was told that a good IT solution to a NHS problem would not be accepted because it was bound to be TOO successful and a New Zealander told me that if I wanted to complain about the UK I should bugger of somewhere else, I took it to heart and did.

We're thinking of leaving Switzerland and live in the USA (NJ). Can anyone give me 10 reasons why that would be a good move as opposed to moving to the UK? Thanks!
My penfriend lives in NJ and cannot wait to get out of there!
The taxes on her house - which is only an upstairs portion, her mother lives in the downstairs portion, are outrageous and she cannot wait to move to be with us here in France, close to CH. But then it's what you want out of life when all's said and done.
