Speaking of Crosby. Rumours abound that he wants to play in the Spengler Cup, but will have to pay his own insurance, and McSorley is also interested in getting him to Servette (Bern and Lugano are also being mentioned).
Of course all this is dependent on the outcome of the current lock-out talks.
If Crosby and Nash play, where do Stills and Young fit in?

Looks like the offer from the players union was declined by the League. No solution in sight. Great for the Spengler Cup. They will have even more International attention. Maybe some other teams playing the cup will strenghten their crew with lockout players.

Shame. I'm not too bothered about the Spengler cup to be honest, even though Gottéron are invited this year. It's just a chance to pick up more injuries and prevnt the players from having a decent rest (yes, bah humbug, I know...).
Interesting graphic in the Blick today, this is how the current NLA would look without any lockout goals or assists:
Purely hypothetical I know, but demonstrates the reliance the likes of Zug and Biel place on their lockout players.
And Gottéron are top, of course .

So the glorious, mighty Powermice (EHC Olten for the ones who don't know) just blew away Sierre 13:0!! It looks like they'll continue the winning streak with which we've been blessed this season with.

Davos came to Fribourg and left with their tails between their legs . No Thornton-Nash circus to see, Nash was injured and Thornton largely invisible. Apart from a cheap cross-check on our defenseman, and then started to punch him when he was down.
He promptly disappeared for an early shower .

Unfortunately, Sierre are in deep, deep financial do-do at the moment. I think they could barely field 3 complete lines in that game, no wonder they lost so heavily.

As a matter of fact, they only showed up with 14 players. I'm wondering how and whether this team will finish the season but the outlook is indeed rather grim.
Be interesting to see how the likes of Bern, Zug and Davos cope without their lockout players.
Gottéron will miss Desharnais, of course, but I think he has had less of an impact than the likes of Tavares, Thornton, Brunner, Seguin etc.

It was interesting to see Canada play small to medium-sized Swiss city teams like HC Fribourg...
Definitely some interesting hockey to watch--it was a bit lopsided, but it's one of those rare years where Team Canada is closer to their top team, rather than filled with Canadians who normally play in the NLA and euro-leagues. Although Joe Thornton did play for Davos--where he's usually a staple on Team Canada.
Canada fell apart in the Junior tournament unfortunately, where I was super impressed with Switzerland almost knocking out Russia in overtime.

I just arrived in Switzerland last week, starting a new job, and my brother is joining me for a month long vacation (February) to just relax and see a bit of the city/country. We're both avid hockey fans from Calgary, so it would be natural to check out a game while he's here. Any advice on what game to see and where? I live in Duebendorf, so maybe there is a game in/near this ice rink in Oerlikon?

I'm organizing tickets for my company for the game ZSC vs. HC Davos which is a classic in Swiss Icehockey. At Hallenstadion Oerlikon, February 23. 8pm. As I don't know yet how many people will attend you are welcome to join us on the date. Tickets are only available 2 weeks prior the game.
