Re: The (Ice) Hockey Thread

Being an American, I am puzzled by the selection of team USA men's hockey. No Bobby Ryan???? I lost a lot of respect for Brian Burke, the things he said publicly about Bobby Ryan was really uncalled for. It's just frustrating to see the politics involved with picking a team to represent team USA at Sochi. Just my two cents.

Yeah, it definitely looks like we're going to see Olten up in the NLA next year with this trend.

Speaking of up and comers---Switzerland played a great game against Canada in the Juniors. Despite the score the Swiss dropped some big hits and the game was tight for a while.
They won after penalty. Now, as much as I support the team, I don't think we're ready for NLA as yet. For one, the stadium is being renovated and resembles a 13th century dungeon....but I sure look forward to the up and coming seasons.

Does anyone know where in Zurich to watch the (Canada) olympic hockey games coming up next week? I'd also potentially be interested in watching some of the others... It should be an awesome tournament!

If you do find a place let me know. I am an American, but would like to watch team Canada as well. Sorry to hear about Steven Stamkos, you guys still have a stacked team.

Re: The (Ice) Hockey Thread

Kennedy's are good with hockey, and usually give a tv and a few reserved tables for Canadian games.

I'm definitely up for it with a few buddies---will keep you guys posted

I'm also a Canadian searching for a place to watch the game. I remember 4 years ago like it was yesterday, and how the city of Toronto exploded with Crosby's overtime goal. I can't imagine not being a part of that moment/feeling.

Must find a reputable sports bar!

It was my first year in Zurich, we packed Paddy Reillys with a bunch of people, Canadian flags and lots of spirit. Played some Stompin Tom and ended the night with a big round of O'Canada. It was such a great feeling and the strangest phenomenon to step outside of the bar....to complete silence :P Inside was pumping with Canadians and even US fans too.

Re: The (Ice) Hockey Thread

Hey Chemmie, all!

Yeah we're showing all the Swiss, Canadian, USA and Sweden games here at Kennedy's.

Number of TV's screens and whether sound will be on or not will always depend on the amount of people in each game. Last night we were absolutely jam-packed for the Swiss game at 6pm, and of course then the game was on both big screens with full sound, plus the Sweden game was on 2 of the flat-screens.

We have to find the balance between sports and normal pub service (For some craza reason, not everyone wants to watch and listen to sports in the pub!! ;-)) That is why not every game will be shown with sound blasting out - I will definitely show the Canada game tonight with sound however, the more you bring for each game, the better the chances of full service! Tomorrow's Canada game will be shown, but not with sound as it's Friday and the start of the weekend and live sport is a bit of an atmpsphere killer for that.

See you all soon!

I've reserved a tabe for you guys under English Forum Hockey Fans - it's opposite the bar at the far end, the 2 tables on the left directly before the stage.

Big Upset!

Latvia knocks Switzerland out-----Amazing game, I feel Switzerland dominated, but Latvia took full advantage of their chances and had some clock-work plays.

Latvia-Canada tomorrow---I wonder how Canada's lousy wide offense can deal with the impressive Latvians!

Re: The (Ice) Hockey Thread

Latvia, Belarus, etc., traditionally good hockey teams. So no surprise there. Switzerland has only recently picked up.

Now, I really hope we beat Yanks. It's going to be a close shot.

Re: The (Ice) Hockey Thread

Sad to see the Russians out (I'm a fan of the Hometown Hero). But they did play terrible this tournament. I think there's was some serious friction within the team (under the pressure) between the KHL stars and NHL stars. So many big names, and they didn't deliver.

I"m rooting for the Czechs tonight (as well as Canada). I'm not happy with Canada's game, and Latvia tonight won't be much of a preview if they potentially have to play the US tomorrow.

Great job by Slovenia! Making it this far!

Re: The (Ice) Hockey Thread

Agree Chemmie, too many egos on that Russian team - they looked like they had been thrown together this morning. Zero team spirit, zero flow or obvious chemistry. The last 2 minutes looked they were trying to close out a 3-1 victory, not chase a 3-1 lead!

Fins look organised and solid as always - that's a real TEAM!

Sweden looking very comfortable, USA looking explosive and Canada looking OK!

Couldn't really choose 2 better semi finals given the draw - no love lost between either of those matchups!!

I want a Canada Sweden final for personal reasons, but honestly can see any of the 4 making it - i'll predict Canada - Sweden, with the Canucks taking gold and USA the Bronze. There you go, I said it!

Chemmie has a table here at Kennedy's tonight at 6pm, get involved if you're around!

Oh, that hurt. Well.. Our team needs younger players. It's a retirement of NHL peeps. You can't have strategic slowpokes against purposely physical younger Yanks. Next time.
