Oh, that hurt. Well.. Our team needs younger players. It's a retirement of NHL peeps. You can't have strategic slowpokes against purposely physical younger Yanks. Next time.

Re: The (Ice) Hockey Thread

What a come back! For both the Swiss and Canadian women. I stopped watching the Gold medal game at 2:0 to go play hockey myself--was blown away when I heard they won.

Lets see if that sets the stage for the men (not a 2 goal deficit, rather kicking some US ass :P )

Go Canada! but I don't think tonights game is gonna be a pushover by any means....unless our boys have been saving their magic for the end. Big names but not big plays this year so far - what was that game against Latvia?

Hoping to see some shining goals tonight!

If I believe what one of the commentator said .Each player on the Canadian hockey team makes more money than the whole budget of the Latvia team is.

I personally ,I am not a great fan of the NHL. To much BS

Re: The (Ice) Hockey Thread

So Olympics is all over blah blah. Congrats Canada and all that.

What's more important is the final stages of the NLA qualification. Will history be in the making when the holders fail to reach the Play-offs? SCB must win away to runaway leaders ZSC, if Lausanne fail to win in regulation in Fribourg. I can't see them doing so TBH, they've been dire this season, and I'm sure the Z will try their hardest to make sure SCB don't qualify; they can be a very dangerous play-off team. There's talk of Fribourg "throwing" the game against Lausanne to help them into the play-offs, but I can't see that happening, we still need to finish in 2nd (though it would be hilarious if Bern and Lausanne win ).

Olten is about to be eliminated from the playoffs...too bad.
Nevertheless, it was still an amazing season.

Incredible that Chaux-de-Fonds dumped out Olten, after finishing 30 points behind them in the regular.

Great to see Lausanne survive another year. Although we have performed dismally against them this year, GVA v Lausanne is always a great atmosphere. For our part, we are in great form up front, with the Lombardi / Daugavins partnership as good as I've seen here, but with no defence to speak of we will struggle to progress much further.

Re: The (Ice) Hockey Thread

For the first time the previous seasons champions are in the playouts - you don't expect to see either Bern or Zug down there.

The Playoffs are:

ZSC (1) vs Lausanne (8)
Fribourg (2) vs Ambri (7) - Ambri have punched above their weight this year.
Kloten (3) vs Davos (6)
Genf (4) vs Lugano (5)

Unfortunately ZSC topscorer Roman Wick was injured last night according to the Tägi. Ryan Keller was also injured in what turned out to be a very expensive ejection for an SCB player - 4 unanswered goals during a 5 minute PP.

Olten clearly wasn't playing the ice hockey I'm used to seeing from them. After they qualified for the playoffs relatively early in the season it basically went downhill from there. The mental aspects of the game tend to be as equally important as the physical aspects..but that's what sports is all about. Getting your mind right in the right moment and then being able to perform.

All true and a great shame for the Olten team and supporters.

I've only just cottoned on to the new LNA playout schedule; the bottom 4 teams play a mini league (home and away, 6 matches each) BUT they carry forward their season points. So we have to play an inordinate amount of games, before Bienne play Raperswill in a 7 match elimination series (Berne cannot be relegated and Zug need 3 points from 6 games to be absolutely sure, but none will probably do the job).

Will anyone bother going to the pointless "mini league" matches. No wonder Zug showed Sheddon the door, they don't even need a coach.

Re: The (Ice) Hockey Thread

Huge game 7 tonight in Zurich; Lausanne have done incredibly well to take the big boys to a final game.

I will be coming to Zurich on Thursday for game 1 of the Semi Finals, but still no wiser as to whether we will be playing the Lions or the Flyers.......

As a Gottéron fan, I'm not sure who I'd rather play in the semis; logic would dictate Lausanne, but they would be on a high after dumping out the favourites and have the added incentive of a local Romande derby. On the other hand, Kloten are a solid, well organised team and we are even with them in the regular season with each team having a home and an away win. However, we dismissed Ambri with hardly breaking a sweat, have virtually no injury worries, a decent rest, and the team is really starting to perform (despite our habitual defensive blackouts; I'm looking at YOU, Timo Helbling ).
