Re: The (Ice) Hockey Thread

wow, what a semi final. 4-2 CAN-USA. who would have thought eh? *
now for FIN-GER.

(i didn't figure it out but here it is *Canada was 0-3 at WC and had only two goals when Mangiapane arrived. Since then, five wins and a shootout loss with Andrew Mangiapane’s 11 points (7 g, 4 a) helping propel Canada into the gold medal game. Today, he was player of the game and named one of Canada’s best 3 players.)

Re: The (Ice) Hockey Thread

Indeed CAN-USA was great one! Certainly this years Canadian team isn't the best, but they managed to get this far at least. Watching FIN/DE now and while FIN is seriously solid, I'm secretly hoping for a CA/DE final tomorrow. Hope we'll be back in the stands next year to watch live...

Yes, the speed of Mangiapane is awesome, in the goal against Russia and now twice today... he is so hard to defend.

Finland ground out another win, though it was nice to see Germany have this run. Good luck to them in the third-place game.

With what Canada showed today, Finland will have a massive challenge on its hands. Canada won even though USA had more shots on goal. The Finnish team will have to outdo itself if it wants to score and keep up its own defense. Should be an exciting final!

…I can't believe Canada lost four qualifiers games out of seven and now playing the final...

... and all the way to the tournament win, 3-2 in overtime.

Still, kudos to Finland for playing strong and fair. They led or were tied through regular time. Looks like they tired in the end, but Finland showed skills and a good collective spirit throughout. In the end, though, Canada righted themselves and outplayed the competition throughout the second part of the tournament, including strong overtimes against Russia and Finland. Well earned.

The US predictably dominated Germany 6-1. I did not watch but the scorebox shows an inordinate amount of penalties, more against the US, though the US took advantage of German penalties to seal the game in the second period. Another bronze for USA, and overall an excellent tournament for Germany which just could not get past Finland and the US.

We take the same next year. Including Italy, which went 0-7 but still gets into the tournament again. Wish them a better run.

what a tournament and tough luck for FIN who played so well this whole time. grats to US too for bronze. and SUI who were 6th
My only regret is the tournament was cancelled here last year and I had tickets for a few SUI games.

Re: The (Ice) Hockey Thread

Bizarre tournament, but glad to see some great games from traditionally non-hockey countries!

Happy with the Canadian win - there is a bit of a trend where Team Canada starts the tournament strong and dominating, then lose their power/maybe get a bit arrogant and cocky, then throw the medal rounds.

Actually really happy to see the hosts shut out our Canadian boys, and Finland played a great tournament.

Makes up for the Leaf's choke (yes I'm used to it, but still bitter). Go Jets GO!
