I believe 5000 CHF per month is below the poverty level, however, we would need more information to give you a definitive answer. Are you single? Will you be sharing an apartment? Are you a hermit?, etc.

As mentioned depending on number of people behind that figure will tell the tale. Plus how you define comfortable life.

Single apart in Lausanne if you are lucky will be 1750/month, on your own, Private medical is 400/month, utility bills/ Tv hookup say 140/month, your mobile telephone say 100/month, Lausanne public transport pass 70/month, groceries 600/month (20 chf/day). You'll have to put up a caution for your apart, probably 3 months rent in advance.

Usually there is a meetup every other Thursday at Taco's in the Flon. Keep your eyes peeled on the calender for dates.

And yes, you will need 3 months rent upfront, try to see if your employer can help you with this and help you finding and appartment.

I have a 2.5 room that I pay 1130 for. The guy across from me at work is in Lausanne and says it would be about that much there as well.
Medical for 400 for one person Sounds very high to me. I pay 142 per month for basic. But I am under 25. If the threadstarter is a student he can get it very cheap though.
For TV hookup etc you can get the casa trio from swisscom for 111CHF per month. That's phone, net and tv. Alternatively if you are under 26 you can get discounts on internet and TV for the first year.
Groceries, I spend about that much for two of us in Neuchatel.
Just my 2cents

I disagree with most. As that is around my salary right now. (soon it will be more hoothoot)
5000 in >Montreux gives you 3500-3900 after taxes.
Insurance is 188 for full coverage
I share 1000chf apt with the gf so I do save a lot there.
I have a very nice car with all insurance...Jeep that needs quit a bit of diesel (100chf per fillup)
I eat out almost every day (kebab, pizza, sandwich and not restaurants and such)
Have no dependants and still save about 1500 a month.
Also look up swisscaution. They pay the 3 months for you for an annual fee of 100chf (which you will not get back, but is nice and worth it when you start out)
60k a year is very easy to live off if you have no dependants
