Re: how long... ?

Going on 20 years with a 3 year break 1999 - 2002. Came here to marry and work locally, learned the language and lived and worked in German (wife's from Austria). Had a few hang-ups early on, but made friends quickly and found out how the Swiss think.

The Swiss are different, as are the French, Germans, Italians and the Brits. I sometimes wonder as I read the posts here if some forum members expect everyone to think and behave as they do. A bit of tolerance goes a long way.

Re: how long... ?

about 10 years. Had a blast the first 9 months. Got homsick but employer offered extension of contract .... wanted to stay but did not want to adjust to grocery stores closing at 18.00, do laundry only on wednesdays, and run my life based on train schedules. Then mate a Swiss lady who thought a 2.5 Ltr 2 seater was a big car. She showed me how to live the Swiss way. Now have kids, mortgage, and am a slave to the machine.

Want to go to pacific islands, open a dive/sailing/restaurant and sit in the warm. Having learnt patience in Switzerland, I am now patiently waiting for that day to come . . . .

Regards,

Never looked back.
My friends in the UK still ask if I am ever coming back...
Came for a job and wanted to leave the UK anyway.

You have mentioned these a couple of times Lucy - what are the fines for (if you don't mind my asking)?

I dont mind you asking!
Not me!
The thread about speeding in Italy posted above talks about one or two of them
Theyre mostly related to Luke driving, but he seems to have incredibly bad luck because hes really not that bad
And we received one the other day that just said "warning" and have no idea what it is for..

I personally havent managed to get fined for anything.. but I dont drive so I think that makes it easier for me..!

I originally planned to stay for a 4 month work assignment, it has now been nearly 3 years.
