The Sea...

I've been here just over a year now and love the Mountains...but GOD do I miss the Sea!!

Anybody here who feels the same?

13 years on the English Coast and I'm starting to get serious withdrawal symptoms.

That salty breeze in your face, best feeling in the world.

And NO, Lakes don't count

Re: The Sea...

Yup, miss the Pacific.

Miss being at the edge. Miss the sounds. The fish. The beaches.

Even the pesky, very naughty, seagulls.

Re: The Sea...

Miss the south florida Atlantic warm clear waters and ocean salty air daily! Miss that annoying sand everywhere! Love being in Europe, and even here, but think about the palm trees and everything every day.. Can't wait to go back next month! Feeling your pain!

For me, the combination of the lakes and the mountains are an acceptable substitute.

Re: The Sea...

I must go down to the sea again,
to the lonely sea and the sky.

I left my shoes and socks there,
I wonder if they're dry?

Yes, yes, yes. I grew up on the sea in Cornwall and will never stop missing it. Yes, the lakes and mountains are incredibly beautiful but just not quite as compelling for me.

Maybe if you have never lived in a coastal/seaside town.
But that special seaside atmosphere can't be substituted
That would be like comparing apples with oranges.

A stormy night or a Sunny day on the Beach, the same on a lake doesn't even come close.

I think you're either a Mountain or a Sea Person. Don't get me wrong, I really like the Mountains but I'd choose the Sea over Mountains anytime if I had to.
Some people find solitude and calm up in the mountains. For me it's getting up at dawn and paddling out with some good friends.

Re: The Sea...

Of course I miss my Indian Ocean. Though I was in it recently and will be back soon enough.

Driving south from Zurich for 5 hours and seeing the Mediterranean appear between the hills near Genoa is something I'll never forget. Made every second of the drive worth it.

have the same feeling when I drive over the bridge that connects Venice to the terraferma... just roll down the car windows and breath deeply...

Re: The Sea...

It's the swishhhh, swishhhh of the waves, the sloshing against a breakwater, the tide coming in and filling the moat before demolishing the sandcastle. Wandering along the sands leaving squishy footprints... The tide going out and leaving rockpools...

AAAHHHHH

This was my front office for 2 years.

Sairee Beach on Koh Tao, Thailand. On a busy day, you could see 10 people sunbathing along the 1.2 km beach.

Love Cornwall and Devon. One of my 2 favourite places. Hidden Coves, waves and Country pubs, what more can you want
