How to complain about a runway

We hear a lot of whinging about living under the proposed Zürich flightpath, and I feel it is worth sharing "complaint techniques that are bound to work" as used by Stansted airport complainants in the UK:

"NEARLY 10,000 complaints about aircraft noise over Suffolk and Essex were made by just 14 callers, it has emerged.

A public inquiry over BAA Stansted's plans to remove existing limits to passenger numbers will get underway next week and noise caused by aircraft is expected to be a key issue amongst campaigners.

But figures released by BAA show that while the number of complaints it has dealt with in the past year was 13,956, 9,100 of those were made by just 14 people, or 650 per person.

Campaigners fighting the airport's expansion plans said noise remained a “very real issue” but admitted some people were prone to making complaints on a near daily basis.

Carol Barbone, campaign manager of Stop Stansted Expansion, said: “There are some people who complain pretty much every day. We say to people if you have to complain then complain responsibly - otherwise your complaint might end up being disregarded.”

I lived in the flightpath for B'Ham, there's no way I would dream of complaining.

These people are just selfish. 4 thousand jobs or a couple of demolished houses? And a couple more flights a hour? You already have 747's over every 15 mins, what difference is a couple more going to make?

Surely we live in the 21st century not the 15th. If they want peace and quiet sell the house (of course they should be compensated) and move to outer hebrides.

Sick of these whingers influencing the processes when the majority of people would rather not be on the dole or those on the dole have the chance for a job. They estimated 2nd runway at B'Ham would make the region £100m +, so why is there a debate?

Same people probably complain theres too many spongers on the dole!

The approaches in Zurich should be rotated and the Germans should be in that rotation too - after all, they use the airport too.

Otherwise you get certain places that are effectively "dumped on" and the home there become unmarketable.

People want air travel - then reap the jobs and relax a little.

Even my town is listed on the South-approach website. We hear practically NOTHING!

Mr Pedantic hat on ... laser designators "pulse" invisibly, creating a basket to guide munitions ... laser sights (as beloved by Hollywood) emit a pinpoint coloured light onto the target which aligns the barrel of the weapon, played with these in my military days with HK5's .... easy way to get undesirables to streak their shreddies ....

Re: How to complain about a runway

Zum bespiel :

United States Patent 4040744
Abstract:
A sight system for providing closed-loop differential tracking control over gun aiming, utilizing visual and non-visual optical radiation to assist the gunner in acquiring and destroying targets as well as providing information to the gun control computer for automatic acquisition and firing. The sight is used in conjunction with a cooperative ammunition round which emits pulsed flashes at a timed interval after firing and upon impact. Portions of these signals are in the non-visible spectrum, and an invisible-to-visible converter is utilized to signal the relative location of the flashes to the gunner. A similar conversion is utilized to provide information on laser designator illumination and other non-visible radiation emanating from the target.

Nah, knowledge is in my head, but google provides easy evidence to confirm what you already know, rather than having to spend significant time building a case, when I could be doing something more satisfying...

Re: How to complain about a runway

Regarding the 14 people who make the complaints... My father-in-law was a copper at Stansted for some years and found that these fourteen people were in contact with each other and would phone all at the same time about the same flight. Many of these were also people who had moved to the area and should have known full well about the aircraft noise before buying. Same sort of idiots who moved in around Blackbushe Airport and got two runways and the go-kart club closed down.

Re: How to complain about a runway

I wonder what their phone bills were like, I bet they tried to claim the calls back off the airline as compensation

I also wonder how much of a saving they got off the cost of their houses compared to those living in a similar area, but not on the flightpath - you pays your money, you takes your choice...

Re: How to complain about a runway

Move in to a risk area, do an investment appraisal of the effort involved in mounting a successful campaign and the premium it would have on your house....
