Re: East Asian guy in Switzerland & Swiss Girls

Just for the record, I'm Asian (female) - not white - and think that you, Truthseeker, come off as a huge cad.

I also find your casual use of the words "chink" and "nigger" wildly offensive.

Sometimes, it's not about race. Sometimes people just don't like you because you're a jerk.

Hi,

I'm an East Asian guy (educated in the UK) and have a chance to live in Zurich, Lucern, Bern, or Basel.

I was recently in Zurich and Lucern and got REALLY flirtatious advances from several Swiss girls. One of them wanted to get a drink with me after just a few minutes of conversation while another asked for my number. This occurred sporadically throughout my trip.

I've rarely experienced such a reception outside of Eastern Europe and frankly, always figured Swiss girls would be 'closed' to foreigners (esp. those who don't speak German / French) and not really into non-white dating.

Can any of you tell me what life as a single East Asian guy long-term might be in any of the cities mentioned above? Which city is best for a single guy?

Thanks.
Truthseeker (how ironic your username is),The responses you have been getting has nothing to do with race. It is just that everybody's B.S. meters are off the dial:

Perhaps its due to the suspicious nature of a previous career, but to me you post would be better titled " Hi, I've got looks, I've got cash, so who is up for a marriage of convenience?" But I could be wrong...

This has to be one of the funniest threads I've seen in yonks. Everybodys observations have been spot on. Poor Truthseeker he must feel pretty chastened by now.Of course he could kill this off by posting a photo of his gorgeousness but I some how doubt this will happen.Let's all hope he has learned a lesson about human nature and in future be a little more modest and discrete.
This has nothing to do with skin colour just a young prat learning a lesson in life.Made my day lol

Folks, lay off the guy. So he made a gaffe and posted something evidencing a certain lack of savoir-faire? Is that a good enough reason for a great number of the forum members (veterans, even) to rain down on him with mockery and nasty comments, to "teach this prat a lesson"?

Careful, or your disparraging enthusiasm to do so will evidence a certain arrogance that may just surpass his.

You're all right. I'm actually a little 5'3" chink with slit eyes and made it all up with feel better about myself.
Hey! I resemble that remark! Except I don't need to make things up to feel good about myself

Chink...slitty eyes...hmm... brings back memories of my school days

Disclaimer: BTW, wasn't tryng to start a race war with that last remark. PM me if you want it removed

Wow, you make an unusual post, and get 9 groans for your efforts!

I've not been to bars in Zurich or Lucern for a long while now, but it seems that the places are worth checking out!

I do not see the harm in this blokes post.

Try Zurich, lots of opportinuities for a young bloke there, and larger population than other centres.

The Swiss girls reactions to me was a surprise though. But I guess it's not something anyone else could comment realistically-speaking on so nevermind."

No one here has tried to "teach this prat a lesson" - your interpretation of my comment which was clearly not the message I was trying to communicate.Rather that one has to learn lessons in life some of which are harder than others to accept. As far as "savoir-faire" is concerned how else does one achieve this state of being if one does not hear what people say and learn from experiences as you go through life. This thread combinrd with the "million Euro" thread is funny but that is just one aspect of all the features of life represented on this forum by all sorts of folks.
That's what makes this all so interesting for us to log on and read.

Re: East Asian guy in Switzerland & Swiss Girls

Normally I lurk on discussion boards but I just had to give my 2 cents on this topic, since I happen to be a Japanese-American guy (from Hawaii) who lived in Basel for two years in the past.

Differently from the U.S., UK or Australia (basically, English-speaking Anglo-Saxon cultures), the media-societal bias that exists against "East Asian men" (e.g. of being short, nerdy, asexual, shy, uncool, etc.) hasn't really taken as strong a hold in many non-English speaking European and South American countries.

These stereotypes exist everywhere in the non-Asian world of course, but in my personal experience, being a single Japanese-American guy in countries such as Switzerland, France, Austria, and Lithuania (my previous postings) was great. No, make that REALLY great.

As for the attention you got, it's something I'm well familiar with. Basically, if you're an attractive guy with an appearance different from the majority look, the local women (Swiss, French, Austrian, whatever) who want you make it known as soon as you walk in the door.

That's why it was much easier for me (when I was single) to find women to date in Europe versus the U.S. I didn't have to shoot blindly in the dark in Europe. Just approach the ones who would ogle me with their eyes, and that was pretty much all it took. I was always amazed at how I'd be considered an exotic, sexy, mysterious foreigner from Hawaii by the European women, return to the U.S., and suddenly have to work three times as hard to date caucasian girls in the U.S. who weren't half as attractive.

Having said that, I think you'll find that this still constitutes a minority of women. Most women of a given nation prefer their own men.

This is veering into another topic, but in my ex-pat experience, the way one is treated (by the local women as well as by everyday people in general) usually depends on a couple of things:

1. Do you fall under the majority 'look'?
2. Do you fall under the minority 'look'?
3. Do you fall under the 'foreign look'?
4. What is your socioeconomic status relative to the rest of the population?

So a guy who looks Turkish in Germany is going to be (at least initially) treated with less respect than a blonde Swede.

A Japanese-American guy like myself will spark stares and attention in Lithuania, but by virtue of my socio-economic status (assumed value), be able to insulate myself from much of the racial flak that a poor Chinese immigrant might experience.

And so on.

Kind of a rambling post, but hope this helps someone someday.

French Polynesian sounds like he's dark-skinned. The treatment he'd get, versus an African, versus a Japanese-American guy like myself is going to be a little different.

By the way, feel free to check my IP address. I'm not the OP. I'm in Basel visiting some friends and have been for a few weeks now.

Re: East Asian guy in Switzerland & Swiss Girls

Oh you people, leave my Asian boys alone!

I do have a swiss girl friend who only dates Asians. The reason she gave me was Asian boys are generally sweeter. Personally I found cocasions are physically more attractive than Asians, but okay, i am asian; But i do believe for any guy (any color)that has a good looking, fit body and friendly smile can easily meet girls everywhere.
