am I imagining things?? [I think prostitutes used to live in my apartment]

for the 3rd or 4th time in maybe 4 weeks a man has come to our apt. door and asked vaguely for "a girl"....one man has come twice and was quite persistent asking if the girls have moved??
my German is pretty much non-existent, but each man was willing to ask about "girls" is English. I pretty quickly shut the door when my spouse was not around, but I'm wondering what is going on?
I'm in a temp. furnished apartment, and as far as I know the owner recently renovated this apt., and we are the first short term tenants. we are moving out tomorrow, so I'm now just curious...
did some really popular girls live here or was something more sinister going on???

Hmmm... do you live near the river and have you noticed odd 'deposits' in your yard?

Listen, I meant no offence, it's just your place also used to be known as "Happy Ending", and I was a regular. I shall knock no more.

on the positive side, you could look at it as a business opportunity - you've literally got a ready made client base on your doorstep, can work from home and arrange your own working hours...

Re: am I imagining things??

The previous tenants were probably prostitutes. I know a health worker who helps prostitutes with their health care, and she says that setting up "shop" in a normal apartment is common modus operandi.

Re: am I imagining things??

Or they could be anyone. Why is it everyone's first thought that they were pro's? It's possible that other english speaking people were there before you. I lived in a corporate furnished apartment, for about 6 months, and everyone who had ever lived there, it was used by the company for almost 10 years, had given the number and address there as their permanent one. So we had all sorts of calls from all sorts of people, mail, and newspaper bill collectors calling and stopping by speaking in english.
Recently, whenever an insurance company or the like calls us, they are normally speaking in german or terrible french. I always say I cannot speak german, and say goodbye. Now the word is out. Whenever a different company calls, they are ripe and ready with an english speaking rep to try to sell me something.
Then again, what did these guys look like? Or were you just wearing something trashy that day?

Do the neighbours complain? As long as they're quiet after 10pm......

Exactly. If the "gentlemen" were asking for "girls" then I think the surmise is correct. I don't think that german speakers use the plural when asking for their "friend" but they may know enough to use the plural when asking for "a friend" . If the were asking for "women" then I might by it.

Sorry but multiple men asking for more than one girls and I take it that they are leaving business cards.

Yeah, sure it's all innocent.

(gets funnier the more I think about it. Sorry OP)

Bizarrer and bizarrerer.
Brian.

Setting up shop in an appt is quite common no? A friend of mine lives in a rather nice old appt block in Fribourg. She is convinced her neighbour is in the profession, due to the number of "gentlemen" visitors she has

Absolutely. Nothing unusual.
I know of someone who provides one of the 18+ appartments in NE. He simply provides the place, has a couple cleaners come around regularly, collects the money for the rent and that's that.
