Chilling out on the forum

I've had a right busy week. I'm trying to improve the premises i have rented for my Playgroup which can be a bit limited due to rental agreements. I must admit the entrance looks pretty dire, it's that good old Zürich agglomerate beton, which spells Grey Grey Grey. Anyway with the help of Papa Goose I think I've made a good step in the right direction this week.

I've been checking in on the Forum in-between and see that everyones their usual argumentative selves which reassures me that life aint passing me by while I'm slogging away. Just a little warm message to you all, if it wasn't for the forum I'd never had the courage to start my own business. It taught me to HTFU and that's the truth.

So stick it out all you newbies, it's not all nasty bad.

Congratulations on your new business!!

I'm sorry to read though that you say "usual argumentative" I was hoping that maybe it was just a phase, which can happen on forums. I sense quit a bit of aggression from some people here ... I thought it might be me that is attracting/causing it... but now that you say what you just did, I'm thinking that maybe it's the ethos of the forum... I wonder why that is?

For example, why are there groans and negative reputations? What's that about?

Sounds military to me... To be very honest, I find it quite off-putting, along with the aggressiveness... Obviously I don't presume to change EF or to think that anyone really gives a hoot what I think, but I'm just saying, as a newbie and all that.

Anyway, when do you hope to open your garderie?

Mrs. T

PS what does HTFU mean?

Re: Chilling out on the forum

It's open Mrs T and going better than my wildest dreams. I don't mean that in a monetary sense but in the way the kids come in' throw their coats off and don't give a backward glance to their parents. They see it as their place.

HTFU means "harden the f**k up". Which I know is not very nice but for me was a good lesson. Saying that, no body said it to me personally I just caught the message and sort of started to believe in my capabilities.

I'm sorry to hear about your horrible experience but maybe we could talk about that privately.

Anyway there are good, bad and a bit ugly on this forum, it's up to us who we wish to communicate with.

Yep! That's a good sign! And such a relief for parents not to leaving a crying child, and to know that their children are happy and in good hands.

Don't worry, there was nothing horrible, and certainly nothing I can't handle, I guess I'm just surprised by this forum, from my first post actually, EF is full of surprises, very interesting, to say the least and an absolutely fantastic information resource!

Anyway, it's late, even for a nightowl like me.

Nighty-night.

Mrs. T

Oldhand: People like you are gold dust on this forum.

With both feet planted squarely in the real world, a sense of humour and sense of perspective that we can all learn from, and an attitude of 'water off a duck's back' towards the bizarre responses of some of the more, er, odd members of the forum, all combined with your experience of moving here, living here and thriving here long before the internet was available to provide answers to every daft question that popped into your head, you are an example to us all.

Keep up the good work, Oldhand!
