| | Thank you EF, you rock!
Aside from keeping me entertained and enlightened (and making me feel very lucky I don't live in a building where I can only do my washing for 56 minutes on a tuesday when the sun is in the ascendent) on a regular basis; I am feeling particularly warm and fuzzy towards the EF this evening for the following reasons:
- I followed a link on one of the employment threads and got offered a job today!
- I was inspired by one of the food threads to make my first zopf earlier
- Reading the language threads gave me the kick up the arse needed to arrange a tandem English/German session with one of the high-school kids in the village.
So thanks EF and all who sail in her! | The following 29 users would like to thank mountain girl for this useful post: | araqyl, coolcd, Deep Purple, Emanuella, Gaebigirl, Galatea, Hsiang, jetset, Longbyt, mabern, meloncollie, menace, Mrs T, MrVertigo, NSchulzi, Oldhand, Peg A, Slaphead, swissotter, Texaner, tkn, Upthehatters2008, velocolo, Wollishofener |

Thanks guys.
I love living in CH but feel my confidence and independence have diminished somewhat because of my terrible language skills (or should I say that I've used that as an excuse). The people in this forum have inspired me to push my boundaries and just go out and do things.
Anyway, I'm starting to sound like I've taken too many happy pills and so I'm off to eat some zopf |

My grandfather lived and worked in Schaffhausen and was the correspondent in his company for French, English and Italian. He WAS in the Romandie and in France but never in any English speaking country. He however practiced English and Italian in the Alps talking endlessly with tourists from both countries. A teacher of a penpal of my mother, in Texas, much to my astonishment, apparently thought that an Englishman had done the translation. And I think that there still ARE English tourists in your area even if possibly not in Andeer downtown.

I was more than happy to take full-responsibilty for my inadequate German but if you're saying it's because the locals are keen to learn English then I'll go with that.
BTW, we do get the odd English tourist down this way. You'll probably catch me stalking them around Volg and eavesdropping as an English accent is such a rarity. |
