| | Pigeon Problem!?!? Advice Welcome!!!
I have a pair of pigeons who seem to be living on my balcony! I think someone in my block of flats has been feeding them, and then seem to set up house on my balcony. I have tried throwing things at them, and have been moving things around to they have less of a place to 'hide out' so to speak. I would love to ask the 'potential pigeon feeder' however, she is a compleatly unreasonable old turkish woman, who hates me and my bf's guts (so that sugestion won't really work!)
It's awfel they poop on my clothes which are hung out there and coo in the mornings and wake me up..Not to mention they are filthy 'winged rats' !!
Does anyone have any sugestions on how to get rid of them...considering they seem to be getting their meals from next door?

Buy the neighbor a bird feeder. With any luck she will get absorbed in smaller, prettier, less poopy birds and forget about the pigeons.
Failing that... the ornamental concretework in train stations is covered in metal spikes to deny the pigeons a place to land. Any chance of getting something like that and installing it where they normally sit?
You won't be able to drive them away; best you can do is make your balcony less pigeon-friendly than someone else's on the street so they'll go there instead.

Although I agree, in principle, with PaddyG, an air-rifle or bb gun are probably more legal than an Uzi...
Not to mention cheaper and less noisy, so less likely to antagonise your Turkish pigeon-loving neighbour.

(b) get one of those fake birds statuettes - I've seen something like a stuffed crow in some people's windows
(c) borrow our puppy (he has a pathological hatred of pigeons)
Maybe not (c), we want to keep him for ourselves!

PaddyG is on the right lines, but I would suggest one filled with water - cheaper and less messy to clean up after shooting the flying rats. After a few good squirts, they will probably decide it is easier to go elsewhere.

I had a bird once that use to poo all over my clothes and annoy the neighbours. In the end I had to dump her.
Make a cardboard cutout of an eagle / bird of prey silhouette, waterproof it and leave it where they frequent.

Try this mail order site in the UK. Seems like a whole bag of (humane) tricks for not too much money. The repellant looks quite interesting http://www.pigeonstop.co.uk/
I think you will get into a lot of trouble if get caught killing the little rats.

You can also buy cat pheremones a pet stores (usually used to calm cats, but has other uses). I personally wouldn't want large spikes on my balcony.

Yup, if you've got somewhere on your balcony where you can hang a couple of CDs
(preferably shiny on both sides) and some strips of alu-foil on threads, this can
often get rid of 'em, coz of the reflections and random movements n stuff.
Alternatively, take up falconry as a hobby.

Hmmm..some interesting advice. Not too sure about the gun idea. But the cat pharamones seem interesting.
I will give it a try and let you know, and the sooner the better because I just caught the pair out there again and I am running out of those stone decorative pebbles to thow at them.

I hate pigeons!!
This weekend one humiliated me completely
That dicease flying annoying bird landed on my balcony, where they usually leave poos.
I noticed it and I sneaked toward the balcony, quietly opened the door and... JUMPED, stamping my both feets loudly and shouting BWEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!
That stupid pigeon did not even move, he bended the head on his side and looked at me like "wtf"???
It's only when I came very close that he flew away!!!
I did felt completely dumb though the way he looked at me!!!! | The following 2 users would like to thank CorsebouTheReturn for this useful post: | |
