| | [Geneva] Free parking areas in Geneva or surroundings
I have to go to Genève for a week and have lots of things to carry.
It would be better to come by car, but then I don't need the car for daily use.
I'd like to find a place where I could left the car parked for the week and maybe use it when needed.
I remember there was this area aside the highway entry ramp on the industrial area in Les Acacias that was still white parking area 3 years ago and some other areas behind the train station, but those were converted to blue zones just before I left.
Do someone know about free parking areas at Geneva or at some close village ?

how well do you know Geneva?..
there is some parking lakeside, rue du Lausanne, just past the WTO and another lot about a mile further down by the autoroute entrance but..
1) I don't know if they allow 24 hour parking
2 ) how safe it may be if it is allowed.
3) public transport.... the nearer lot is about a 20 min walk from the nearest bus stop ( not so far but if you have to carry things to /from... ) http://maps.google.ch/maps?q=geneva&...11,31.7,,0,8.7
edit : I just zoomed in on the "P" sign on the map above and their are parking hours posted.. now again I don't know if those are enforced.

There's unlimited white parking on the Chemin des Palettes, although finding a spot there depends on time of day. It's right next to the tram stop Palettes, which gets you to the center in 10 minutes. Worth a try.

Yes, I remember the place in Pallettes.
There is a place in La Praille, a friend of mine told me is still white but it is the industrial zone, and as my car has Zürich plates it could be a bit dangerous to leave it there.

Hi everybody, I am really new and glad I found you are still discussing this matter. So what do you suggest in terms of nearby villages? What is the policy? White lines are free, blue lines you pay, correct? Thank you! |

blue lines parkings are free too, but you can stay only a certain time if you don't live/work there. After that time, you can be fined....
If you live in the area, you can ask for a *macaron* which gives you the right to stay all the time you want. (but the macaron isn't free)
The others need the *the blue wheel* (sorry don't know how to call that) where you indicate the time you've arrived.
Some places have also a ticket machine where you put your money.

In front of Palais des nation along Avenue de la Paix, but you will be very lucky to find available space). If you drive further towards Chambesy along Route de pregny, you will find a few more free parking places.

Thank you very much! Do you know if you need Geneva plates to get the macaron, or can I get it with my current (foreign) plates?

There's no mention about that.
If you understand French : http://www.geneve.ch/parkings/abonne..._macarons.html
They ask about the * bail à loyer* (proof you're living in the area) and the * carte grise* (id) of your car.
