..and once again, I don't believe that this study is conducted in a manner where you can derive a real quality of living figure...as emphasis is made on matters that hardly affect the real quality of living of a person.

That's quite interesting, many of them are important to me and do affect my quality of life. I would be happy to hear what areas you would like to see included.

I note that they did not include..

Price of a Rum and Coke
Availability of a decent English Breakfast
Thickness of walls and loudness of apartment neighbours.
The length of skirts and tightness of Jeans.

All of these are vital.

Well, duh! Any survey that has Zürich above Basel is quite simply fundamentally flawed.

It's obvious really.

...no but in terms to derive a real value you need to include the right figures such as:
-traffic per capita
-availability of goods and services
-availabilty of facilities such as gyms (YMCA types, where you can engage in activities without being a part of a club)
-urban polution (i.e, graffity, littering and general ugliness of the place)
-the real crime figures (including harassment which clearly isn't part of the police work here or simply the recording of not so severe crimes)
-availability of appartments
-open economy

...such factors for instance.

..yeah like what? Availability of goods and services? Like for instances how there are hardly any opening hours..and establishments have a 30% surcharge on food purchased passed a certain time in the evening..is that part of your idea of quality of life?

Probably why Zurich didn't get #1 spot. I am sure they took all that into consideration and deducted accordingly.

Zurich #2, Geneva #3..

So Basel #1.. YAY BASEL! FCB FCB! Inferno!!
This is great news, and what a honest survey from a reputable organisation.

What? Basel is number... NOT ON THE LIST.

BOO silly survey.

...and that is probably the same way Mercer people assumed certain figures when they did the study.

UptheHatters2008 - you're never going to convince LIB that Zurich (or any Swiss city) is anywhere an list of top places to live.

See: Backwards Switzerland if you don't believe me.

Adelaide is #32 therefore the study is not only wrong the author should be locked up. Have they even been to Adelaide?

I'd sooner cut off my left nut than live there.
