on-line shop: migros or coop?

Hello,

am about to do my first online grocery shop in Switzerland. In your experience, which is better between migros and coop? in terms of:
- price
- choice
- service?

Thanks in advance!

Re: on-line shop: migros or coop?

Why don't you fill a comparable 'basket' at both online shops and compare the total?

Never shopped from either of them online so I don't know how their delivery rates stack up. Migros is a bit cheaper in-person for the stuff I buy.

Re: on-line shop: migros or coop?

The Migros website is far quicker and less prone to errors than the Coop one, which they royally screwed up when they updated it, and still tends to crash from time to time.

However Migros only deliver when I'm at work, whereas Coop will deliver into the evenings, which I find much better.

I find Coop has a better choice for the things I buy, but that will differ from customer to customer. However Migros is usually slightly cheaper for the product, but they have a more complicated calculation for frozen goods and delivery charges.

I've found Coop goods to be in general better quality than Migros when they arrive.

IIRC, the Migros site can be changed to English, but the Coop one can't (not 100% sure on this, it's been a while since I looked).

Pluses and minuses on both sides overall. Try both over a couple of shops and see what suits you best.

I tried Coop last night. The site worked well, although we do not speak anything but english at this stage so a bit hard! Wait until Thursday for our first delivery! Will let you know after that...

I like the choice on the Coop website & it is very easy to use but it is incredibly slow. It almost feels like I am using a dial-up connection when I do my shopping. They also sometimes mess up the odd item, I have had a couple of things missed but then I have also had a couple of things I never ordered. There is a section on the website for special offers & things they will give you for free to try.

Re: on-line shop: migros or coop?

Co-op's website has improved in the last few weeks and doesn't appear to be as slow a it was previously. I prefer coop as they deliver a broader range of gluten free products and the produce is always fresh. They deliver in the evenings (always on time) and I've never had anything to complain about. They don't have an english version but utilising the French one has helped expand my vocabulary

Re: on-line shop: migros or coop?

I'll second (third? fourth?) the vote for coop-- I like their selection, their delivery is timely (although they use *way* too many bags-- average maybe 3 items per bag ) and as far as shipping charges go are cheaper-- no need to pay a deposit for the cooler bags, which they give you to keep or you can return them to the delivery person next time they come by.

The other bonus is once you've shopped with them a couple of times they'll send you free shipping coupons pretty regularly via e-mail so you don't even have to pay anything to get your groceries delivered (provided you're willing to drop 200CHFs in one go... which you can easily do once you include wine in your shopping ).

You'll have to define "when you work" as we often get deliveries up until 19:00 hrs.

Migros is available in English, I believe.

But fundementally, it is swings and roundabouts the way the two have carved up the CH market.

Bit of a choice (or lack thereof) of:

Re: on-line shop: migros or coop?

I have used the Coop and was happy with the deliveries. They have more brand name products which I prefer. Heavy things like washing powder (or gel) I'm not keen on the Migros products so I guess it depends on what you like most. I agree that they do use too many paper bags. You can also give back your empty PET bottles to the delivery person. Always on time (if not early) and always very friendly and helpful.

For my PLZ they only deliver until 17.00, no good for me. No need to define when I work, it was just a comment on my experience.

Re: on-line shop: migros or coop?

Can you leave contact details and/or directions for the driver on either? Our house is a bit tough to find and invariably GPS systems take you to the wrong road.

The amount of times I've had to rescue friends or other deliverymen because of this is unreal, and we've only been here 6 months!

On the Coop site you definitely can. Don't know about Migros.

Re: on-line shop: migros or coop?

Did't want to start a new thread so posting here...

Have been using Coop@home on and off for yrs and since about 3 months very regularly versus going to the store (part of quality of life improvement for my family )

Anyway, what I have noticed is that MANY times (i.e. basically every order) something I have ordered is not delivered.... this really pisses me off because of course then I have to go get it or replan my meals...

It also means their logistics suck... as I often order at 22 for a delivery at 13 the next day so I find it unacceptable that items they claim to have are no longer there (would have more understanding if there was a 10 day delay between order and delivery...)

So...

Was I unlucky in the past weeks or is it something I have to live with?
Is LeShop better?

Thanks for sharign your experiences!

Ciao

Re: on-line shop: migros or coop?

I've shopped at both in the past but last year only COOP.

Comparing our experiences I'd say you were unlucky. I've only had this happened once with something quite minor and they gave me a BON to either get it free next time or at the shops. With LeShop I've had several missing items without apology (but if you contact them they'll make amends), whereas I know of other shoppers who swear nothing like this has happened to them with LeShop. You win some you lose some.

I find the COOP site often slow but it doesn't deter me as I prefer their interface. Also pretty much what you get at the shops is what you get online; with LeShop it's a mixed bag of things and I'm spending more time checking out the ingredients of products I'm not sure about. Plus now it's in English, you get to use your bonus points immediately for delivery, there are so many free delivery offers in the year, they recognize customer loyalty, there's no freezer box to make a deposit on, you get the bonus stickers, if you have the family card there are so many automatic reductions... it's really all too convenient.

In contrast LeShop has sent me one free delivery offer in all the time I'd shopped there (5 years!), you've got to send in your Cummulus coupons and wait until they calculate them into your account, you pay for the freezer box deposit, the things on offer at the shops are never online, and they send you those really silly games where you have to shoot a deer or a donkey or heaven knows what in order to "win" like 5fr off your order. Whoopdidooo! Recently they've changed their delivery set up, but before that you'd think the order was coming in the next day but basically if there are too many orders in cue before you, then it's another 48 hours -without informing you! Pffft!

So yes I'd be put off too if ingredients were missing, but I'd send then an email (or ring them, many speak passable English) and explain that you like being a customer but this and that has been missing -in the least they'll offer you something for your trouble.

Re: on-line shop: migros or coop?

So I wrote to them and response...

"Sorry but the product was no longer in stock when we packed your goods"

and nothing else...

Made me furios so wrote back a bit nastier...

Let's see...

Lack of empathy for the consumer in these situations makes me angrier than the problem itself....

Re: on-line shop: migros or coop?

Quick question, what is the minimum amount that I have to buy for them to ship it for free?

A little explanation: I live in Geneva so I prefer to buy groceries in France, it is much cheaper. But the heavy stuff I'd really like to get them at home, I don't have an elevator.

Re: on-line shop: migros or coop?

Deep breath, deep breath, my dear. Alas, sometimes it's the Swiss manner.

I read their fine print and it does say that everything is subject to stock at the moment of packing rather than ordering. That's why they send you the first order email followed by a definitive one upon packing. It's their "escape" route. My sympathies are with you!

A colleague of me frequently uses BOTH. He is surprised again and again about the differences in regard to price. Service of both is alright, and the choice as well.
