Where are the Swiss going to watch the Spain-CH game in Basel?

Hi!

Does anyone know a cool place to watch the Spain-Switzerland game tomorrow in Basel?Any public venue? I want to avoid the Irish pubs since I assume there will be no Swiss in there. Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance!

Try http://www.querfeld-basel.ch/ I watched the Germany vs Australia game & the atmosphere was great.

I plan to watch the game there with some of my Swiss colleagues.

They have a large screen indoors, which might be good if the weather stays like today.

Alternately you can try out the below places for public viewing::
http://www.hinterhof.ch/
http://www.garedunord.ch/

Re: Where are the Swiss going to watch the Spain-CH game in Basel?

well, theres the aqua/kuppel area which is kinda nice (not only for the cup) during summer. but they dont have that many tv's installed when i was there friday. this one is outdoors, but has some seats inside in the aqualounge.

to watch the games with a nice crowd (most of them understand something about football, unlike in other venues) you could go to Gare du nord, thats a nice spot in the Badischer Bahnhof (German Railway-Station).

i second querfeldhalle. a nice spot, but its indoor only.

last but not least: you can go to http://www.public-viewing-basel.ch/
i dont know what they were thinking when they organized it. its way too big, on the opening day they gave away 1500 free tickets, max. 100 came. but for tomorrow it could be crowded, but i dont like the kind of people going to such places.

Re: Where are the Swiss going to watch the Spain-CH game in Basel?

They had very happy faces... though they were also making themselves look a bit ridiculous. They celebrated this victory on the streets as if they had won the World Championship maybe they don't know there is still a long way to get to the final???

Beating Spain was probably good enough to deserve a celebration in their eyes. Celebrating football wins is all about losing inhibitions and sense of the ridiculous.

All around the world victories at a World Championship are celebrated like that. That has nothing to do with the oponent.

Yes, that's why all these Swiss cheering so loudly on the streets today will fall down soon enough

With all of the statistics having been in Spain's favor (undefeated against European opponents since 2006, was it?), plus a couple of injuries on Switzerland's side, they should not have had a chance against the current European champion.
I think the Swiss never expected to win that game or get very far in the tournament in general. In fact, they probably still don't think they'll get very far in the tournament, which means they should celebrate while they can.

They're probably also relieved to not be in a position similar to Denmark's after their loss to the Netherlands the other day: a Danish friend of mine, in accepting my condolences, said "Don't cry for us, we'll always have '92!"
Is there anything comparable the Swiss would be able to use to brush off a defeat against Spain today? (help me out here, I honestly don't know!)
