Siren Test [sirens sounding in Basel on a non-test day]

Is it siren test day today, or are we all about to die?

Well it's stopped now and I'm still alive.

Anyone any idea why the siren went off in Basel today at about 08.20?

Re: Siren Test

The siren test is in February, so your locality is probably experiencing a small thermonuclear war or the peasants are uprising. Grab your pitchfork and favorite wench and head for the hills...

It woke me up.

Sorry, no idea why it went off, it did last month as well, on a Wednesday...

Maybe Basel is testing more frequently than other areas? Maybe something else is going on "near" wherever you and I are (I'm near Kannenfeld Park) that sounds like the siren but isn't?

Re: Siren Test

I am currently reading a book about the swiss military, and according to it Basel is not defendable if attacked. Basically the plan is to abandon Basel and save the rest of Switzerland.

So run!

Re: Siren Test

In Basel, sometimes the sirens go off if there's an issue with the chemical plants in Switzerland or over the river in Germany.

That being said, several years ago there was an accident at a chemical plant in Germany, just across the river from Switzerland. I was working at a chemical plant in Switzerland, who only heard about the accident from a co-worker talking to a co-worker at the impacted plant. But the police did go around Basel city making announcements to shut your windows and stay inside, and the same announcements were on the buses.
