Just wondering if Migros/Coop are better/cheaper for certain things?

Coop is much better for wine.

Migros doesn't sell alcoholic beverages. Coop does.

Sorry I know you didn't ask this but just in case - you live in Basel, if you want cheaper, go shop in Germany and France.

Nor does Migros sell tobacco related products - Coop does.

Other than that I've found them to be much of a muchness, with Migros having more own brand products.

although things have recently changed in broad terms migros mainly sells its own brand, at coop you can find much more selection and well know international brands - quality i prefer coop

Co-op is just beter quality imo, especially the one at Sihl City, its awesome. Plus they have better deals on meat than Migros.

I tend to shop at both, some things from migros and other things from Coop, also denner for some bargains every now and again.

Agreed. Not sure about France though. Whenever I go to Germany it's full of French people doing their shopping. Germany is perhaps cheaper for the French too?

I mainly shop at the coop because of the meat and i am collecting paddington bear stickers, i also shop at the migros for a few things, but prefare coop

Now if you want good food, go shopping in France.

If you want cheap, good quality, shop in Aldi and Lidl.

Some things are definitely cheaper in Germany, but what you would prefer depends on your eating habits - French supermarkets are definitely superior when you want seafood, wine and cheese.

Yup, I am in the privileged position of living 5 minutes walk from a Lidl, sometimes I go in just to see what they've got on offer that week, they do some great random stuff.

I can't shop in Aldi - they don't like my Visa card. They only accept credit cards that contain a 'chip' (think it has to be Mastercard). And I don't like to carry cash.

Oh, have they started taking credit cards now? The UK ones only used to take cash and debit cards.

Isn't Migros cheaper than Coop?

I think it is a case of buying certain things in both. Today I whizzed over to France for some fish & cheese, then picked up some bits at our local Migros and Coop and made it home before my french frozen food had defrosted.
I do however get very annoyed at how certain fruits in both Migros & Coop go off very quickly and then have to be thrown away

If one of them had to die I would choose Migros - find quality to be generally (but by no means in all instances) better at Coop. The benefit of the duopoly is that one has better offers than the other on fruit/veg/salad stuff.

I'm a coop-er too mainly because they sell booze and I can't be bothered to shop in two different places as I normally have a least one kid in tow.

Generally I find the selection at coop suits my family tastes more, but I know quite a few Swiss people who say that Migros is just better all round I can't see it myself, but there you go.
