they are generally after small valuable stuff, so I recon your brockenhaus chest of draws will be quite safe, wallets, phone, jewelry, cash, car keys etc are what they want.

| | Re: Burglary warning | Quote: | | | | | I thought I'd revive this thread to ask if anyone has heard about any burglaries recently. An acquaintance thinks someone tried to break into her apartment last night while she and her husband were sleeping, a bit out of town.
I've heard--and read in the other threads about burglary--that these happen in rashes and that fall/ winter tends to be the burglary season.
But I've also heard some things that weren't in the other threads: buildings housing a lot of "foreigners" are targeted, many apartments in the same building are burgled at the same time, and the burglars work in teams watching buildings in advance and leaving each other signals such as markings on postboxes, empty cans on windowsills, etc. Are these other things just urban legends?
A few times in the last couple of weeks, I've come home to find one or two of our building's postbox doors open, and I had a suspicious feeling about it right away. And a month or so ago, I got the distinct impression that someone was on our balcony at night (even though we're on the first floor). Are there particular neighborhoods that are particularly vulnerable? | | | | | Many burglars belong to regionally or even internationally operationg groups, and so, ALL neighbourhoods are vulnerable. Many of those burglars have a preference for suburbia as it allows them to get out and away easily, and suburbia usually has a higher noise-level which for them is practical

Last week my wallet and phone was stolen from the mens room in the University. I was naive enough to think that nothing would ever happen here(Swiss). In fact the thought never occurred to me that things could be stolen inside the university.
More than the money and mobile I lost, it is the pain of blocking and getting back all the cards. Every single card, credit, debit, GA, B permit, driving license etc was in the wallet |

haha last week also someone tried to steal the purse of a girl in the bar. Little did he know everyone in the bar was from the same school and they saw it happen. I think he will be needing to steal many purses to pay for what they did to him. (no police involved however as we all know how it ends when the police comes..... )
I have been eye to eye with a burglar once in the USA. I think he was more scared of me than I of him (and i was scared haha) sobers you right up.
Just checked my windows also. not possible to move the lever once on tilt but i did see the whole assembly is held in with one little screw......

I just cannot sleep unless windows opened - so I am so grateful we have very strong solid shutters and sleep on first floor! Personally would never rent/buy a place where I can't safely open windows- defo on my priority list, way above posh kitchen, etc.
Vigilantes at work in Bulle! That almost worries me more than petty burglary, somehow. What did they do to him?

well the dude came back last to the bar and tried it again it is incredible?????
I think they are recent immigrants or refugees. they are Somalians and speak not a word of English or French or German. and to be honest they are simply savage (im talking bout the 3 that come to the bar) They do the weirdest shit and cannot be reasoned with....
what they did yesterday and last week was beat the living crap out of him (his friends just left him behind and let it happen ...
yesterday same thing happened but this time the beating didnt so much serve as a warning. well deserved I guess.
They are now banned from coming in......
