Coop Tägipark Wettingen extends opening hours

As of August 14, Coop Tägipark in Wettingen will be open until 8:00 pm on Saturday evening.

http://standorte.coop.ch/vstinfo/sho...do?betrnr=2439

Currently I think the closest COOP in the area with extended hours on Saturday evening is Coop Silbern in Dietikon.

Re: Coop Tägipark Wettingen extends opening hours

I think the Migros at EW is also open till 8 on a Saturday.

Also the little Pronto at EW is open on Sundays now.

I wonder when RVBW will extend the Saturday service to Tagipark.

I don't think that is going to happen. Too close to the German border where you can shop at Kaufland until 10:00 pm on Saturday night.

Unless it's changed lately, it's open till 20.00 weekdays, but only till 18.00 on Saturdays.

This is the general trend. But both Coop and Migros do it by a step-per-step way.

A) Würenlingen is not sooo very close to the German border
B) That someone in Germany, where opening hours for many years were more restrictive than in Switzerland keeps now open until 10pm or 12pm, is not an argument in favour of early closing times.
C) Exactly your argument in favour of early closing hours in fact is an argument to stretch it out to the latest hour possible, and that at present is 8pm
D) the customer base of a shopping center in Würenlingen is in the Aarau to Brugg area, an area where the customers may find the Würenlingen place convenient if open until 8pm but possibly INconvenient if closing far earlier.

10 Km, which is close enough if I can save 30% on my grocery bill....

THIS would be an argument for the Würenlingen Aarepark to be open until 2am, in order to be available when the generally cheaper competion is not !

10km in Switzerland IS a distance of relevance, and many folks from the Aarau to Brugg area may be ready to pay some 20% more if saving an hours driving time. Right, 10km should not be half an hour, but under Swiss traffic circumstances is what you have to take into consideration.

But, seriously, to counter the German competition, Aarepark Würenlingen needs to keep open until 11pm as a minimum

Impossible ? Look at Coop Bahnhofbrücke Zürich which now is open Monday to Saturday until 10pm, something I would have regarded as impossible in 1990 .

Opening hours are strange in a way. In the 1970ies, opening hours in Germany and Switzerland were almost the same. In the 1980ies and happily into the 90ies, the Germans however closed down shopping business on Saturdays on 01pm 02pm, so that when I got to Germany on a Saturday (worked in the morning) I had to realize that all shops either HAD closed down or were just closing down. In recent years, parts of business in Germany have moved ahead into liberalisation very fast.

And to your 30%. This is a high figure. Reality is that articles in Germany are between 45% cheaper and some 10% more expensive (according to information for example from Mediamarkt outlets in Germany) than in Switzerland, so that a realistic average is some 20% cheaper right at present. A rising exchange-rate for the Euro will bring that back to some 15%.

Aarau is miles away, no one from Aarau is going to Würenlingen. As for Brugg, it has lots of shopping and parking. Someone living in Klingnau, for example, would shop at Würenlingen and the driving time to there would be about the same as to get to Waldshut, 15 minutes or so.

Actually this is the figure quoted in a recent newspaper article in the local paper, and they were talking about groceries, not electronics. The parking lot of the grocery stores in Waldshut are filled with Kanton AG plates. People are willing to drive to save money, and if they can shop every evening until 10 pm, (Mon-Sat) that makes it all that more attractive.

My original post was intended to be just for information. Whether these extended hours extends to Würenlingen only time will tell but my personal opinion, and a local perspective, is that this is unlikely to happen.

Re: Coop Tägipark Wettingen extends opening hours

When Würenlingen originally opened, it stayed open until 9pm on Fridays. Once, I was there at this time and was the only customer in the shop. Even now at 8pm on a weeknight, it's deserted. Perhaps there isn't a demand for late night shopping from the more rural client base. (as demonstrated in recent referendum results)

I live in a town (steuerparadies....) with equal distance to shops in Waldshut and Würenlingen. We tend to alternate our shops between the 2 to take advantage of the different product selections and savings to be had.

In a recent KTipp article, nappies were shown to be more than 75% more expensive in Switzerland.

The Aargauer Zeitung recently had an article which said that the average Swiss household could save up to 30% by shopping in Germany over Switzerland and that this could actually increase given the state of the Euro at the moment. Swiss stores have not been forthcoming in passing on the savings from buying in Euros and this just increases the gap.

Alright, for groceries it will stay at plus 20%, but as the Euro is going up and up and away almost daily, it is difficult to say what it will be in early September, but even in case of groceries hardly 30%.

And if you say that people are willing to drive a certain distance if they can go shopping until 10pm, then it is clear that the shopping centres in the Canton of Aargau should become open until 8pm as a minimum

THIS is how it looks at Glattzentrum
Öffnungszeiten Montag bis Samstag von 9 bis 20 Uhr geöffnet
while the Spreitenbach shopping centre on Saturday closes at 18.00

20.00 is NOT 22.00, but it is clearly better than 18.00 .

The shopping-centres cannot do much about higher costs here, but they by achieving more liberal conditions for business can both reduce net costs and improve the position of their shops

I saw a notice tonight at Coop Bau and Hobby Würenlingen announcing that as of January 1st they will be open Saturday evening until 8 pm.

It will be interesting to see if the store will be busy.

I agree with Mrs. Doolittle, i to wonder if the shops will be busy then.

Not sure if the Swiss people like late night shopping, will this not interfere with the planned schedule they all have?

Oh how i miss the days in Ireland, Tesco open 24/7 - most of the shops open late till 20.00/22.00h on thursday and friday..Open from 12 on Bank holidays..

Surely it is adjusting ..sundays shops closed.. by 18.00 shops closed..bank holidays well..you know what i mean
Must check the shops in Frick, i believe they all close one hour earlier.

It looks like this is going to be the normal opening hours for the larger Coop's. My local one changed to be open till 20:00 on a Saturday about 2 months ago & I have seen quite a few signs for others appearing too.

I went to Coop Aarepark in Würenlingen on Satuday just after 6 pm and it was busy. The entire mall was open. I had a coupon from the Coop newspaper for 5x super points, but the cashier informed me that the after 6 pm promotion was 10x super points so that made 15x super points. That might explain why the person on front of me at the cashier could barely fit her shopping in one cart.

For the few things I really needed to buy I could have gone to a Migrolino or Pronto but of course once at Coop I bought more than just the essentials. Perhaps this is what they are counting on.

Apparently the Tägi Park Wettingen has Something Bwitish Going on this weekend (25-26th August 2012)

No idea what that means, as I am not from that neck of the woods.

Lets hope they're doing fish & chips

Well I guess it just wasn't worth it. Now they close at 18:00 on Saturday night. Staff are happier about it.
