Weird telephone system?

Ok, I just ordered a telephone line with Swisscom - it was activated on the 10th August

It's a new apartment and in the apartment in the corner is the sockets for TV and the Telephone one -

I bought a telephone from Media Markt and the part that goes into the telephone is the normal telephone socket/plug - and the other end of the wire that came with the telephone is this big weird block that doesn't fit into the wall socket.

So I bought a telephone extension, with both sides the same - the normal small block...and I connect that and I don't have a ring tone or anything..

Anyone know what is wrong?

Thanks

Re: Weird telephone system?

Our phone also has the big plastic block. We had the same exact experience and eventually had to call for them to get the phone line going, actually a guy even came out to the house. Not sure where you're from, but it's not like in the States where you sign up for telephone, plug in your phone, and start dialing!

Good luck.

Re: Weird telephone system?

When I got my phone and internet from Swisscom I had to get an electrician in to come round, take out the phone and internet connections in the apartment, connect a new box and set up my internet. I think I also had to wait for Swisscom to activate the phone line.

Re: Weird telephone system?

The end of the wire that came with the telephone has somehting like -

But on the wall it's a normal one you find in the UK/US

But it's weird, coz if I use a normal wire it doesn't work...what's it all mean? That the phone I got, only works with that kind of adaptor wire it came with?

Why doesn't it work with a normal one when in the wall is already installed a socket which takes the normal one?

Bleahhh
