Why not this Christmas ?
I'd love to help out too | | | | | You're keen.
A few reasons against Christmas:
Decent places with good capacity are already getting booked up.
Getting a date that suits may be difficult, as people will have other things to go to at that time of year.
Places tend to put their prices up for Christmas.
People often have financial commitments at Christmas, be it buying presents or traveling 'home' for it.
It gives Begga plenty of time to get a date (see earlier post).
If we do it in June there is the chance of at least part of it being open air.
You may live to regret your offer...

Ok you're on. Let's have a Christmas party !! (about 10 days before)

Okay, so in Iceland we have this yearly parties with our works or our school that seams to be unknown here. You are expected to bring your partner to these parties, but usually not friends. We don't like to make things complicated so the direct translation is just Year-Party or Year-Festival (well, my dictionary says 'Annual Celebration'). So people dress in their best, eat good food, enjoy each other's company, there are usually some entertainers on the stage and in the end is a band playing. It is always the most fun of the year. Usually held in February or March. Some kind of Happy-The-Winter-Is-Over thingy.
I've always missed this since I moved here. And well, EF is some kind of a work place, is it not?
But when ever it will be held, it sounds like a fantastic idea and I will gladly help out if I possibly can.

| | EF Summer Ball 2011?
I'm always looking for an opportunity to put my name in an upturned cocktail umbrella and let it set sail down a river of scotch. Doing it in a tux a'la 007 sounds like a lot of fun.
As for dates I do know many catering companies & venues have a lull in trade in early to mid November, before the Christmas rush. Might be worth looking into. January could be good to?

i like the end of the winter idea...sounds like fun and a good way to celebrate
in terms of dates, i know plenty of eligible bachelors here in lausanne- doesn't help me as i've got my own frenchie but i wonder why you ladies in zurich don't take advantage of the french speaking wonderboys here in lausanne
anyway- i'm in and if there's anything i can do to help, count me in! | The following 2 users would like to thank amaraya for this useful post: | |

I'd join in, but not if thingy, Mrs Whatshername, that loony from Ticino and that weirdo from Engadin are invited.
Suggestion: Have every who's banned on EF sit at a separate table like kiddies at a wedding and make them wear the pointy "Dunce" hats and for after dinner games we get to put them in the stocks and throw rotten fruit at them and, and, and......
I can get a table at a rather decent restaurant at Zurich Airport if the will is there: http://www.runway34.ch, yes, I'm a shareholder, but no I won't get a bank type bonus for bringing in a bunch of rowdy foreigners and SVP-haters.

Runway is cool - we were there last year for a boozy event.
I suggest keeping the ticket price high in order to keep the riff-raff out |

Hello
I'd be interested in a winter ball, after the new year, perfect to look forward to in Feb/March when it is a little dreary.

i'm guessing you probably need a minimum of 100chf per head and more likely 150-200chf?

Catering to a hall cost less, but then you need to add in the price of cutlery, plates (eventual staff)... and the difference is not that much.
Plus a DJ et al and 100chf is a reasonable low estimate for something nice.
Perhaps a poll ( ) asking what people are willing to pay and also the time of the year (too many people travel in the summer imo) would be a good starting point.

Fabulous idea!
I work for a hotel company with 3 venues here in Zurich, I could enquire about discounts on the ball rooms if you're interested.

If it's in winter, please do not call it the Blue Ball. On second thoughts, not in any season whatsoever.
