Re: EF Summer Ball 2011?

yep that is exactly what it costs, between 150.- 200.- per personne, for our annual company Summer & Christmas parties for example
and this ain't Zurich here.

Phil is right. A 3-course, not very great meal (outside of Zurich) in a restaurant costs a minimum of 42chf per person, excluding drinks.

Catering to a hall cost less, but then you need to add in the price of cutlery, plates (eventual staff)... and the difference is not that much.

Plus a DJ et al and 100chf is a reasonable low estimate for something nice.

Perhaps a poll (;)) asking what people are willing to pay and also the time of the year (too many people travel in the summer imo) would be a good starting point.

I think its a fantastic idea, I'd love to go. If I bring a guest it'll probably be just the one unless my social scene changes dramatically between now and then.
I'd be willing to pay 100-150.

I just had an idea, it'd be kindof cool if everyone who goes sends in a picture of their computer wherever they usually log-on to EF and we could make a big collage called "the English forum". It might be a bit of a crazy idea though :msncrazy:

EF photo things = cringe... I saw the EF calendar the other week, and the memories still haunt me.

I think I'm too much of a newbie because I haven't seen any prior EF photo things.
Anyway, we don't have to put ourselves in the photo. I certainly wouldn't want anyone to associate me directly with the Chaos that is my desk at work.

Re: EF Summer Ball 2011?

I think summer's a great idea - no one's around over Christmas, and I find those Christmas parties in late November terribly sad. Also I love the idea of a summer ball with a marquee in a field somewhere. We could even rig up a dozen mobile air conditioners to keep it comfortable (I could bring one for example). Also, if you're going to do a poll on price, I'd make it one where you can see who voted for what, also what we get for each price - I have no idea what these things cost and I'd assume it depends on numbers too.

No photos! Jeez, the mere thought would give children nightmares. So, who's organizing what then? I'll do the seating arrangements, that's an obvious one. Trolls get to go under the bridge, those full of BS get the seats near the washrooms and I'll make sure that all the lost lonely female good looking souls between the ages of 25 and 45 understand the basic concept of hospitality.

I've had a busy few days. I'll have a proper read of what people have said, reply to PMs and set up a poll on price over the weekend.

So this is what you get up to while I'm hard at work !

I assume, I am by default volunteered to help...it will cost you a new frock and shoes. :D

Definitely has to be summer though !

I would of thought ticket prices would have to be circ 100-150 chfs but it depends on the venue and the potential charge for exclusive use on a nice sunny Saturday in Summer.

I can hire help for less than that would cost me!

Not my cup of tea but a great idea as something different. I prefer the more informal events. Hope it takes off as an idea though.

From the various posts I have a couple of comments.

1. The OP has suggested a Summer Ball as something that they would like to organise, not a Christmas party. A Christmas party is also a great idea and there is nothing to stop anyone organising one in a separate thread.

2. Guests or not. I don't have strong views either way on this. It seems sensible to allow one guest/partner at least. Additional guests, not currently members, could easily register as members so that would get round that issue. I have been to events where there are various prices: members at cost, small increase for partners/first guest and full commercial rate for other guests.

Re: Poll: How much would you pay for an EF Summer Ball ticket

I can appreciate that some may want to have a fancy affair, the idea IS being called a "ball" after all. ;)

So, if there is enough interest, please enjoy.

I'll be over on the other side of "town" wearing jeans (my nice ones!), enjoying some sangria and bbq. :msncool:

Edit @ 1230pm...
Not so enthused that my post is moved to THIS thread instead of where it was... my sentiment re ball vs bbq is based to an incredible degree upon cost factor. Sure I'd like to attend a "ball" but sure as hell can not afford 200chf per...

If it the cost isn't too dear, I'd maybe even see if my b-i-l and his wife would want to attend as well (so that would be me + 3)... OH WAIT, but that's the topic of the OTHER thread, right? :eyeroll:

Personnally, I would enjoy more a big BBQ with music and people playing football, eating, drinking and kids running around.

It is cheaper, more accessible for everyone and perfect to relax!

I do recall organizing few of those over the summertime, but no Nil showed up! :(;)

Then, dear Nil, go and make a thread about it, this is about the summer ball...

I know... And believe me, it wasn't because I didn't want to go.

Eh oh, he ask about what we think! Take a deep breath and some prozac.

And I wrote it on the poll where people talk about the prices.

No I didn't. I specifically asked twice that you keep the poll thread solely to voting and indicating the number of guests. Hence why you have been moved.

As Rich and others have said this and the other thread are about a potential summer ball, not a BBQ, not an open air rave and not an orgy. For reasons I have stated, I would like to organise a summer ball. If anyone wants to organise any of the above, start a thread on it and get organising :)

If the prospect of Ouchboy mounting you doesn't fill you with abject fear, then there really is no hope for you (although ironically, it seems there's finally hope for Ouchboy).

However, best keep the thread on topic as eyebeebee is doing his best to get info for potentially organising this, and it's a horrible job to have to do. :)
