Oh, yes. Nothing replaces simply being aware of yourself & your surroundings.

So true. So when anything gets you distracted it would be a good idea to treat it like an attempted robbery waiting to happen.

Re: Purse stolen

Long story, Whilist sitting in a bar with a friend in Barcelona a couple of years ago, her handbag was on the seat next to her, no one else in the bar. a family came in (elderly couple with two adult children) they walked in apporched the bar asked for directions then left, also leaving with my friends handbag. The bar staff notice and my freind ran after them, the old man had the bag claiming it was his wives. Later a english couple came in and sat next to us, she told us when she was in Barcelona a few years before she had her handbag snatched from her. With police being everywhere in Barcelona she went to the nearest police officer and explained what happen. The police took the couple in the car drove round the block, stopped at a alleyway, the police took the couple to a man with a big bin bag full of purses and wallets and asked them if the purse was there. handbag not being there, they went to the police station. Whilst the women was on the phone to England to cancel her cards, two policemen turned up with a guy a threw him on the floor. This guy had two stab wounds one in either leg and the police said that this was the guy who stole her handbag and gave her bag back. Crazy, sorry its so long :0)

Re: Purse stolen

I can share a funny incident happened with my brother in Delhi. Some body smashed the window glass in his Car to take the laptop which was lying on the back seat.

When Police came and he explained the whole episode. The police officer was damn annoyed and said first you leave your laptop in the car and on top of that put it irresponsibly on the back seat visible to whole world. What choice are you giving to the thief other than breaking your car

Fair enough, the point is you got to be careful with some of these things and the amount of carefullness depends on where you are

I agree with you. Lets say for example somebody wants to steal your purse while you are reaching high up to get something. They would have to unzip it, put their hand in, find the purse between loads of crap you have in there and take it out in the space of 3 seconds without you knowing. Thats a bit difficult.

I never understood why women carry bags that cannot be zipped or that the opening is closed just by a small clasp. Something like that:

With the purse showing. The amount of times i had women in front of me in line with bags like that and not paying attention to them...
I remember, awhile back, having read a story about a slash & grab ring in Atlanta(? I think?) airport. One thief slashes the bottom of a woman's handbag & grabs the wallet when it falls out. The thief makes a quick handoff to a nearby accomplice, who disappears in the confusion, empties the wallet of anything useful to them, and tosses it in the nearest trash can.

Good luck to any thief that tries that with my bag - he'd be killed in the ensuing avalanche of action figures, toy cars/diggers/bakugen, small-child-undies, wipes, phone/laptop plus chargers, snack box, a bunch of keys a gaoler would be proud of and steel glasses case...

The tragedy of it would be that he wouldn't even get my wallet which is wedged into an internal side pocket.

So true... I rarely dare to go into my wife's purse...
