On the contrary, speed dating occurs throughout Switzerland in every bar and pub post 3 am on the weekend
If you're just looking for fun, then go ahead and give it a try.
If you're looking for something more serious, you're setting yourself up for a fall.
p.s. Speed dating events where the women rotate are more likely to be successful (where success is defined as a definite two-way match). I wont go into the whys and hows of this, but it is something I have definitely observed to be true.

I really wouldn't take such an event too serious. It's for the fun of it.

Oops.
No, it does not say anything. It's better be picky than wear yourself out, but people always say better bad partner than none, one always learns, even by failures. I don't agree. Now, are you sure people aren't trying to hit on you and you are just missing all the hints?

| | Re: Speed-dating - thoughts? | Quote: | | | | | Speed dating seems a bit shallow. Some of us need a bit more than five minutes with someone to work out if things are going anywhere. | | | | | Well that's not the point is it? You meet someone in the traditional way, you still don't know if it's going anywhere until several dates. Speed dating is simply a way to introduce people. As is the case with many other such methods, traditional or otherwise.
Comon', let's be honest, sometimes at a dinner or bar or wherever, we are originally piqued by how someone looks or something interesting they said. No difference really.
If you're not meeting people the traditional way as the OP says, no harm in trying.
I know a few people happily married after meeting at speed dating.

| | Re: Speed-dating - thoughts? | Quote: | | | | | I wanted to try Speed Dating to see what it was like too, but don't really like the idea of only having 5 minutes to chat to someone and being forced to rush through some formulaic (or even worse: "zany", sigh) questions before being ushered off to the next person, because you don't get to give anyone any real impression of what you're like. All it really then boils down to is if you like the look of them, in which case you kind of may as well make it 30 seconds of chat and then meet up again at the end for a drink. | | | | | Exactly no? I would think 5 minutes is enough to suss out if the person has anything in common for you. Equally 5 minutes can be seriously long if the person doesnt. Ridiculously fugly shirt? NEXT. Think Lady Gaga is cool? NEXT! Man Utd fan? NEEEEEEEEXT!

Like I said above, no different from a typical expat event.
